you don't have to use what he had, if you can't find it, you can also use some called butt connectors. and you don't have to use red. you can use larger, blues, or yellows. just fold a bit more wire in the hole, and crimp.

RBP or AV911, How did you run the cables through the cable reel. Did you need to inser pins into the reel on the dash side? Also, did you need to remove the reel to do this. Is this difficult?

I'll be performing this project as well soon. I already have the steering wheel controls on hand. It'll control an aftermarket headunit.

Two cents from me.

1. The bolts under the factory stereo are 8mm.
2. You can use speaker wire if you can't find 18 guage wire.

I did the mod this afternoon in my '06 LX Sedan. Work great!

The scariest part was the removal of the airbag. Once she left, it was fine.

I am planning to do this mod. But the wiring harness is a hefty price. Your guide is pretty detailed, except for the part on making the wiring harness. I think I need more help on that part.

What I know so far:
1. 18 guage wire 24-30" length
2. Bullet connectors.
3. ?

sorry for being so noob... only took grade 10 electronics haha

I did the upgrade about a week ago and it's working great.

I've found that it helps to remove the bottom cover first to avoid breaking the locking latches on the top cover.

I did this install to control an aftermarket Pioneer AVIC-D3 unit using the SWI-PS adapter. Out of the 2 wires you need to run, you simply ground 1 (any one), then connect the second wire to the white lead of the SWI unit. (Add diode to control mode button, program swi for version 3, then have it learn the button commands)

With the help of this writeup, I also performed this upgrade on my Honda Pilot LX to control an aftermarket radio and by purchasing the EX radio controls. The Pilot buttons didn't come with a connector harness, so I had to run the wires into the steering reel.

You have the same steering wheel right?
yeah, 100% same.
but my HU is only single disc. is USDM civic (LX ??? - without audio control ones..) HU also single disc ? or 6 in-dash disc HU ?
because in australia, VTI(basic-no audio control) only get single disc HU.
but VTI-L(one level up), get 6-indash HU with audio control.
is the HU between them same, can accomodate the audio control ?
