I have an ‘08 Civic EX with 67,000 miles and the original PCV valve. Decided to replace it last week since the part is inexpensive. VERY glad I did. The idle is much much smoother, like butter. Acceleration is also better due to less hesitation. My OCD brain can say that with confidence!!
I’ve driven both on the highway and in stop & go traffic with the new PCV valve. I highly recommend replacement to anyone, especially if your current valve has 60k miles or more.
P.S—I’ve not yet gone through a full tank, so I cannot presently speak to the mpg.

Wow at your low mileage I have 160k on my 08 Lx lol. Planning to do the radiator, hoses, thermostat, waterpump and belt soon.

I did this today with my R18. My car has had an issue where the car feels like it wants to shut off when at a red light. By changing the PCV Valve and cleaning the EGR Valve unit the car feels good now.

When doing the PCV Valve, i thought it was going to be a breeze just to find out the area is tight back there.

Do yourself a favor and buy this specific tool. If i didn't have this, i couldn't have done this job easily. ($3.99 at Harbor Freight)

When you say clean EGR valve unit may I ask where it is and how to clean? Thanks

Its right in front of the engine. You will see it.

If you plan to remove it, buy a new gasket as the old one usually sticks on the surface, and can't reuse it again. Part #18715-PB2-000.

Also use Carb Cleaner, and a clean rag. Lookup "R18 EGR Valve Cleaning" on youtube, and it shows you exactly how to clean it. Thats what i followed.

Good info, thanks for sharing! Yes, the PCV valve is a pain to get to.

Anyone break their pcv valve? I bought an OEM PCV valve, got the old one off no problem....went to put the new one in...torque wench set to 33 ft lbs as per manual and the SOB snapped in half. I did second guess that torque spec and looked it up in various plaves as it seemed a little high to me. Well...the entire threaded section is now inside the head. I JB WELDED it for the time being and car is running fine but I dont know what to do.

I dont know if I can extract it but I sure will need to pull the valve out (spring pulls right out) and break it in the process in order to get an extractor in, at which point I have no choice but to extract it. And if I cant...Im **. I could drill it out and put in a helicoil or time-sert but I doubt there is enough space to get a drill in. Never mind that Id be getting metal shards into the engine.

Anyone have any exerience with a broken PCV?
I wished I read this before I did mine. Set my torque wrench(es) to 33-lb-ft (as indicated by the service manual) and the PCV valve broke off....TWICE!!! The first time I thought it snapped was because of the Rockauto aftermarket part. Then, when I tried to torque down the original, with a different torque wrench it snapped too!! Luckily, was able to remove the threads from the valve both times. Now waiting for another replacement, this time, gonna ratchet it down snug tight.

FYI: The crush washer is the same as your oil drain plug.

DO NOT SET YOUR TORQUE WRENCH TO 33-LB-FT!!

Yes, I support not torquing this item. Replacing my PCV in 2020 with a genuine Honda part, I attempted to torque it with my click style wrench and felt like I was going to break it so I stopped halfway and snugged it. This is a fragile part so I say good and tight is the way to go.

Engine crud and such always seem to gather there. When I took mine (PCV) off, when "blowing" into it, it still sounded meaning it was ok. Mine looked like yours. I don't know, I wouldn't worry about it. Replace it (cheap insurance), clean the surroundings and don't think about it again until next time you decide to replace it.

Mine looked like that. I cleaned the area and I found a crack. I am sad
