i removed my balance shafts well over a year ago and it has freed up the motor quite a bit. vibrations are almost non existent. i also seemed to pick up another 3/4 of a quart in oil capacity.

the install is very intrusive, i would recommend only the highly skilled to attempt this or bring it to me, LOL ive done 4 cars already. you can do this 2 ways, drop the subframe to be able to drop the oil pan completely or raise the engine out a bit. then you will have to remove the valve cover and the front cover to the timing chain. follow the helms manual to remove the chain. after all this you will need to remove the balance shaft/oil pump tensioner and remove the chain guide. you will also need to remove the oil feed orfice on the block and plug it with a threaded bolt and some hondabond.

here are some pics of my car and a friends car.

this is the RSX baffle you will need.

EDIT, here is a update on how to modify your K20a2/ z1 pump (type S)

tape off the pumps mouth and feed hole with painters tape.

set pump on bottom end and draw a line to measure were the trimming needs to happen.

Image

grind off the area with a bench grinder and smooth out the rough edges with the wire wheel.

if done correctly you should have something that looks like this

should fit like a glove too, with none of the bottom end touching so it can bolt down flat on both ends.

IMPORTANT!!! do not forget to remove the oil feed orifice and replace with 12mm bolt as mentioned on the parts list.

i did mine, which was the 1st i ever did on the ground in my driveway, did not drop the subframe just lifted the motor out a bit while i worked on it. the 3 other ones i pulled the motor out because i was also doing a type R final drive, then the last one i did about a week ago i just dropped the subframe and did it with the motor in car. i can do this whole job in 5 hrs.

Getting rid of the balance shaft and chain was big with the DSM community too.

Just about most community wants more power. In the DSM, the engine vibrated at idle, but once your moving it goes away.

To K20Z3ALLMOTOR: since then are you still driving the car with the removal of the balance shafts how is the motor being balanced? How's the vibration on high rpm? When you remove these shafts the rotational mass of the crankshaft, rod and piston assemblies will be that much more unstable- how is it from then and now?

Just did this yesterday. Went OK thanks to a heated garage, lift and expert mechanic friend's support.

The oil jet plug was not threaded so not sure how you guys plugged it. We ended up drilling/tapping to a 1/4" pipe thread and brass plug, which worked well but had me nervous! :eek:hnoes:

Was also going to drop in an oil pan baffle at the same time but the Clockwise Motion baffle clearly is meant only for RSX/K20a oil pans, which are shallow and don't have the bulge near the drain plug. So don't believe what some post on here have claimed that it worked on a k20z3 pan! Going with the Hy-Tech version instead (more drilling and rivets, but oh well).
