Vtec bogging

Sorry if this has been posted already, but I'm at work and kind of in a rush. If anyone knows of the answer in another thread, please don't hate on me, just point me in the right direction. Thanks,

When I hit the Vtec engagement point, it seems to bog down, doesn't feel like the cams are switching over. I can still redline it at 8k, but it just doesn't pack that same "punch" as before.

I have zero engine mods, and the car has roughly 57k miles on it. It's a 2006 FG2. Also, there is NO check engine light on.

Thanks,

Wait did you just say 5 quarts....dude our cars only take 4.25 quarts.....

Also you need to check your clutch, it may be slipping. Like someone said, if there is no cell there is not issue. 57K miles, if you drive it hard your clutch maybe going out. Check that first.

Next oil change please use 4.25 quarts, 5 is too much.:readtherules:

i am having the exact same problem right now with my car..dont believe people wen they say "its just in your head" . i think you would no your cars power by now..everyone kept telling me that it was in my head until i took it to the dyno and found out i lost 57 whp! its been like 3 weeks now and i still cant figure out whats going on with my car and ive tried alot alot of things

57 whp!? Sweet jesus... an lx could pull on you then... yeah, I'm hoping that's not the case with mine... I'm thinking maybe I have a cracked block? I'm not sure if that would cause it? I also thought maybe my air intake was clogged, but I checked the filter, and it doesn't look too bad. I called the Honda dealership, and they said they couldn't do anything if there wasn't a CEL. Maybe I could convince a service tech to ride with me in the car, and experience it first hand... I don't know...

yeah dude..i put down like 161 at the wheel? dunno how or why yet..i took mine to honda and they said they couldnt work on it cause theres to many aftermarket parts..so i guess im on my own..but i was in a 4th gear pull and then like it switched over and started running like poop..when did yours happen?

In actuality, that's not that bad of a whp loss. Most civics should put down 197 at the crank, but at the wheels, they are going to be putting down between 170 - 180ish... so you're just a little bit lower... then again, depending on how many aftermarket parts you have on the engine, then i can't say for sure. Mine is happening as soon as I hit the engagement revs. Like when you drive with a cold engine, the cams won't switch over if your car isn't warmed up enough, that is how it feels, but my car is fully warmed up.

OK !!! come on now , before i felt for your problems , now i call:bsflag:
I have a legit 237 whp and will still let everyone know that an srt4 or a gto will walk me like a doggie .. the only way you were gonna have bragging rights to either one of those cars would be in the twisties.

now to help with what could be your problem , a bad pcv valve can cause this , it may not throw a cell for a while just due to the car not reading it as blow by oil pressure problem, also the oil pumps on the z3 are not the most desirerable, mine was changed out for an a2 oil pump and i monitor it with a temp and pressure gauge. my stock z3 pump would go between 40 psi down to 20 at idle and under load between 65 to 100 psi and then shoot back down to 70 during the vtec engagement causing a dead spot, more or less the stock pump could'nt keep up and made it feel like a power loss..

the rise in the oil pres is what activates the cam to drop and lope into the vtec engagement, which is also why a catch can should be used off the pcv valve more so than the valve cover..

no i def. only use 91 and up...mostly 93..and i have a scan gauge constantly reading my car and its coming up with nothing..and yeah i have the reflash..i even called hondata and they said there is absolutley no way the reflash went bad..i have enough oil ..i even have a oil pressure gauge in my car to monitor it and its the same as when it used to run good....

the motor seems like its screaming.but making no power...its really wierd actually..its so loud you like cant hear the radio if you get on it hard

Does your scan gauge show live data or just of there are any codes? Does it show TPS status, v-tec status, number of misfires, etc.? Just wondering if anything isn't reading properly.

If it's louder that makes me think there may be a mechanical issue. Maybe a valvetrain issue, maybe an intake or exhaust manifold leak, something that could make more noise.

Your clutch isn't slipping right?

I know you said that Hondata assures you that the reflash isn't causing the issue, I'm just looking for a common denominator.

yeah it does show some live data..it shows tps status..not vtec or misfires..i just put new plugs in though so it cant be the plugs ...the thing that boggles my mind is when i put the stock intake box on the motor doesnt get like super loud like it does now but it feels like a turd with no power at all..now that i have my DIY X intake on it gets loud..ive tried like 3 different intakes on the car..nothing seems to be working
