Oh wow. Thanks for your help!

[/sarcasm]

Now...Was that really necessary? Once again...I dont want an Si, thus, I elected not to purchase one. And unfortunately, Black interiors were not available on the other models when I bought my EX. If they were, I would have bought it with black.

Jesus people, if you don't have anything useful to contribute to a thread, stay the heck out of it.

What about the guys that spend $5,000+ on Turbo setups or engine swaps? Should they have just "bought a WRX or something else instead?" No. I dont know about you, But I dont purchase cars that others like. I purchase cars that I like, and there is nothing wrong with making improvements. I know people that spend more on their cars than they are worth...in college, my roommate had a Ford Focus hatch...with a 4.6L V8 and RWD.

****** A' I need a .

BOT. Thanks for those pix B-man. Your interior is Tan, but you basically went the same direction my wife and I are going to end up going. We are going to go one step further though, redoing carpet and seats. Just a question of when.

just out of curiousity (especially for the dash area), could you not look into some crap yards to see if you could by some scrapped Si panels for cheap? IMO it would be easier to get those and it will be permanent (dont have to worry about flaking or any of that jazz)

re upholster the seats, buy the carpet from honda, the headliner you can spray paint but it won't be soft, it'll still have a rough feel to it, i just had a shop re do it. The pillars you have to paint or cover in fabric since they don't come in black, same with the rear ones. Kickpanels you buy from honda for like 15 dollars in black, buy the door panels and center console aswell. The dash i wouldn't buy, not only is it a pain to take out but it's expensive aswell along with the glove box, i would spray paint those, i did with mine and they came out completely OEM looking.

I have no junkyards in my area. I live about 30 miles from the canadian border off of I-81 in Northern NY. There is NOTHING out there, car/mods wise. Therefore, ebay would have to be my friend in this case. Shipping a dash on Ebay is going to be RETARDEDLY expensive, and there arent that many Si's around my area, let alone a junkyard full of them.

Bandit Kane: How did you paint the dash without removing it? THAT's talent. I wouldn't dare.

Everyone who totals their SI sells the interior then sells the shell to the junkyard.. it's worth more cash that way..

I tried every junkyard in florida looking for interior panels from SI and found none.

I didn't.. i took everything out, in order to take the dash out you either have to cut it at a small piece at the bottom that goes under the steering wheel or take the steering wheel off.. you have have to have some magic hands and screw driver to get some screws out that come from behind the dash and attach it to the car's frame.

alright seriously people who just go around on posts saying you should have bought an si need to just stop logging in here. he is asking for help for his project that is all.
first of welcome home man. i left camp victory in march 2009
i would do the carpets and seats yourself since you say you can but as far as the dash since you are wanting something permanent i would fork out the extra cash and but the si dash from a dealership its gonna be expensive but its gonna look the best and last the longest

Well thanks, but I am not home yet. We are on the way out. I am sitting at a JSS (Joint Security Station) right now as we are packing out to move to FOB Hammer. I will be home for good in June. This is my 2nd deployment, I was here from Aug 06-Nov. 07 as well.

I have been working on cars since I was old enough to hold a wrench and follow my dad around. Taking the dashboard out (while not enjoyable) is not completely out of the question...however (i havent priced it yet) buying it BRAND NEW from a dealer, probably is. I would guess in the neighborhood of $1500...if not more and that WOULD make it out of the question. Wondering maybe if custom stitched black suede upholstery attached to the dash wouldnt do the trick ;). That would be incredibly time consuming. I have done leather on Dashboards before, but never on one with the curves and angles of an 8thgen civic.

not too much longer man.

personally i would do the cover i mean a new dash is going to be extremely expensive but would be permanent. and you said before you wanted it to be something you felt like you did all yourself. making your own cover would definitely give you that feeling

Yes, Rob it would. But see I am nuts. I would not stop until I had a Mercedes Quality, Hand Stitched Black Suede foam dash...But I am crazy like that. Its not feasible to have my car out of commission for that amount of time.

As far as checking ebay for dashboards, well...I found a couple, but they were in Si's that had their airbags deploy. Now, newer cars are different, but every time I have seen an Airbag go off in other cars, the dashboard mounts get bent/broken from the force of either the accident, or the force of the airbag itself.

So, I can take the dash out, and maybe even drive the car without it (not sure how that would work out LOL), but I would have to have a week or more to do it, where neither I, nor my wife, would need the car...Good luck with that. So, back to the drawing board for the dash. Any more Idea's?

I tried to wade through the spam to see if anyone had posted up any decent ideas, but didn't find much.

If you don't live near a junkyard, and you don't like used, you could consider an online parts dealer. I've purchased from both Majestic Honda - The Internet's #1 Honda Automotive Parts Store and Honda Parts at HondaPartsDeals.com: Honda Accessory, Honda Car Parts, Honda Auto Parts, Honda Accord Parts and they both seem to be reliable. Both are competitive with pricing, although shipping can get expensive on the larger parts. I've ordered interior panels (when I sold my racing interior, I had to replace a lot of parts due to worn out clips), and they're well packaged and in very good condition.

I wouldn't consider painting any of the surfaces, as it won't look nearly as well as OEM panels. Re-upholstering is definitely an option for carpeted surfaces, and since you're a reconditioning technician I'm sure re-wrapping the seats won't be too tough for you. Aside from that, all the plastic panels would be best suited to replacement.

I know this is off-topic, but your sig says Meguiar's Guru. Where do you order your chemicals and pads from?

Since you can upholster the dash however you dont want your car out of commision for too long. Why not take the drive to a scrap yard (i know its far...but its cheap!) and get another EX dash (since all the SI dashes would be gone?) then upholster it when you have time to work on it and when its done just take the day and do the swap? Just a thought. :)

EDIT: Once you've done the swap to your car you can use that dash to reupholster and put in your wifes car. (if you have two cars. I couldnt remember after reading through all the..si stuff) If you dont have two cars you can just ebay them or put them up here in the auto mall!

I get alot of my stuff from from GlimmerGlassDetailing and some from DetailersDomain. Occasionally I will run out of something while working on a job (though I try not to run out of things) and I will have to pay retail for something at Autozone. I dont always use Meguiars, but I find for the average consumer, for the money, Meguiars products yield the best results.

I also like Swissvax, Poorboys, and Chemical Guys to name a few.

I dont mind used parts on some things, but junkyard carpet doesnt really strike me as appealing LOL.

Atomosphere.145-great idea. I will look into that. I wonder if I can even uphoster the civic's dash though, and have it look right? hmm. Time will tell. One thing is for certian, I need a spare panel or 2 to experiment with. I will be searching for said panels.

my interior looks good. scuff it up with some light sand paper then spray primer. then hit it with some coats of krylon fusion black. get some matte clear coat in spray cans from walmart and apply a few coats. if done right the panels will look exactly like SI interior panels from 75% of all angles viewed at it. if sun is hitting it at certain angles and ur looking at the right angle u can tell it was painted. search the thread on here of post pictures of your interior for my post i have pics up. im currently putting new suede on the top of the door panels and armrests. the mojority of it has lasted fo ra year now without any issues. due to soem idiots in the car i had a few scratches worn clear and other typical issues with painted interiors but im touchin those up now. those people dont ride with me anymore lol.

I did find a dash on Car-part.com...but its in Gary IN. and its $1000, $1500 if i want the air bags. I just checked UPS, its $150 shipping.

Ouch.

I am going to keep looking. I have a few months yet before I am home. I am sure other opportunities will present themselves. Can I use a 2009+ dash? are they the same?

The used parts place nearest me http://www.eissbrothers.com has 1 8th gen civic...

and its an EX so no black.

http://www.eissbrothers.net/asp/parts/details.asp?ID=19515066

Checking now to see if there are any salvagable panels i can use for spares.

EDIT: wife just called. $850 for the dash because they have to remove it. no we cant remove it ourselves, their insurance wont allow it. $150 per door panel, and they arent even the right colors.

Burn LOL.
