Wanted to post up this quick picture and explain what I have learned about exhaust sounds and how to generally tell if it will be on the louder or quieter side.

In the picture below, I circled all the exhaust in red that will generally be on the louder side. The exhaust circled in green will be exhaust on the quieter side. You can tell from the exhaust design and see the similarities just by looking at the picture, but here's just some general guidelines. Remember, this isn't set in stone but just what I have noticed over the years. An easy way to look at things are the larger the pieces on the exhaust system, the more quiet it will be. The more uniform the piping size, the louder it will be. Generally. Also remember that this is just to generally help determine if the exhaust will be on the louder side or the quieter side.

Loud Exhaust:
  1. Muffler has no canister. More of a straight through, smaller size on the muffler as you can see in the pictures.
  2. Mid-pipe has small to no resonators or additional mufflers. Look at the picture and see that the louder exhaust mid-pipes all have similar styles and sizes.
Quieter Exhaust:
  1. Muffler has canister shape. Bigger muffler = more sound deadening (Not sure if that's the right word but if muffles the sound more)
  2. Mid-pipe has a resonator or muffler on it.

Hope this helps you when choosing an exhaust.
