Better then the Honda MTF. I've used it for years in my b16 transmission and love it. Smoothed out the transmission allot. That being said I will be trying the Amsoil in my new FG2 when its time.

Gm synchromesh friction modified is better than the honda stuff. Never tried amsoil so can't compare the two.

 

Im trying to find out what the BEST fluid for this transmission is.

 

do you have to get the GM syncromesh at the dealer or can you get it at pepboys?

The GM syncromesh is sold at my local checker auto, so pep boys might have it.

 

SYNCHROMESH - is sold by Amsoil, GM, and Penzoil.

I can't speak for the Si. But the mkiv generation VW's (golf,jetta, Audi tt) all worked great with SYNCHROMESH

 

I have an R18 with M/T,the second gear was a little stiff going in until I changed the fluid to Amsoil and now all gears go in smoothly,my point is both products you mentioned are great but you won't regret using Amsoil.

I bought it from my local Chevy dealer, Best mod ever. no but really it feels really good so smooth. I thought it was all hype but it was worth the money.

 

its great. i put the amsoil crap in mine but it made it notchy as hell. So i jut ut the GMFM back in.

 

i work at a gm dealership and i own a 07 si.....getting ready to do a tranny service. already have the honda fluid on hand but seen this about the synchromesh and read elsewhere on other forums and everyone seems to swear by it. question is there is 2 different ones. there is a friction modified and non friction modified synchromesh fluid.....so which one is the one to get?

 

get the Friction modified.

 

Redline MTF made a huge shift quality improvement on my old car (Sentra SE-R), so I was thinking of switching to that in my Si. Does anyone have any experience with it?

 

IVe heard some guys say that Redline worked great in there tranny. It wouldnt hurt to try it. Just get that Honda MTF out of there.

 

can we use Motorcraft XT-M5-QS in our cars. i was on another forum and read that this transmission fluid works great in the MS3 just wanted to know if it would work in our cars. if anyone has tried and can give a review it would be greatly appreciated.

 

Never heard of anyone using that. Whats the weight?

 

I searched for it and everywhere I kept reading it was a 75w-90. I also read that it's a GL4 or something. Don't really know what thy means but I've read good things about this stuff. Apparently it's hard to find info on it though.

 

Why experiment mtf is very cheap? I ran Amsoil synchromesh for five years in my FG2 and it was great. Eliminated third gear pop out, and made all gears smoother. I just had my clutch done and didn't have Amsoil on hand so I used GM synchromesh, feels almost as good. I am going back to Amsoil as soon as it arrives by mail because it does shift a tad better and it lasts hella long.

 

i put the gm synchromesh in recently. 1,000 miles later the shifts are the smoothest they have ever been and no 3rd gear issue. now im not saying this fluid will completely fix 3rd gear but so far no issues and am very pleased. the rest of the tranny services i do on my 07 si will only have the gm synchromesh. with my employee discount its that not bad of a price either. you get what you pay for!

 

i prefer gm synchro mesh i replace my transmission fluid once a year or after every track day
my local mechanic has tons in stock

 

The parts department at my local GM dealer says the just sell tubes of friction modifier? or is there actually a specific friction modified MTF??

 

im using amsoil and love it, but ive never used gm so i can't compare
