A New Solution To Rear Deck Rattle. Doh!

Hello everyone. Well I've been trying to figure out this rear deck rattle thing for awhile now. I found a lot of information on this site and others. I think I have it figured out. AFter experimenting with sticking paper towels around and stuff like that I realized that the noise was still there a little even when the rear deck WAS OFF. After messing around for a little I thought I heard a rattle come from one of the speakers. I noticed that when I put a lot of downward pressure on them, it stopped in that area. So I get out a socket for the speaker screws and surprise....they were loose. Ok not totally loose, but not tight at all. I tightened all of them tight, crushing the foam padding separating them from the metal, and no more rattles.

I think what may be happening is that they are being tightened down in the factory, crushing the foam padding until the screw is tight, however then over the next few weeks/months, that pad is compressed until it is no longer exerting pressure between the metal and the plastic speaker ring (what garbage!). If you give yours a few turns you could be rattle free too hopefully.

Hey guys I'm sorry but to get pics I would have to remove that deck again. While not difficult, it isn't fun either. There really is no need anyways. To remove that deck do the following:

- Fold down the rear seats
- push up on the deck itself from the edge where the seats were previously touching, they will pop up. from there just lift up on it, the fasteners will pull out.

Don't sweat it if you break one of the fasteners, you can pick them up at honda for chump change, I pulled it on and off several times trying to fix the problem before I figured it out and I never had any problems with them breaking.

Once you have the deck removed, just take the appropriate size socket and tighten the screws down. Then slide the deck toward the back and just pop it back in. make sure that the front edge pieces slide down into the little holes, you'll see what im talking about. Just hit it into place with your fists in the back if you have to.

Trust me if you guys and/or girls have any experience working on anything, you'll be able to figure this out. Let me know if you actually try it and have serious problems. Good luck (you won't need it, its easy!)

Whats interesting is that the gold screws behind the seats that are bolted to the plastic piece are deleted for 07-08 models is this right?

i just picked up some dynamat on the cheap for my siffy bracets so I'm gonna do the sub with the extra sheet while I'm at it. I'm gonna put the cutout piece on that cheap plastic baffle behind the sub. I figure if I cover those little square holes it'll give a little better bass responce. While i'm in there i will tighten down the screws on the rear speakers and check for anything else thats loose. I'll let you know what happens.
