Top Hat orientation on struts

I wasn't aware of the orientation being important with respect to the tophats when installing the front struts. I read somewhere here that to make sure the arrows are pointing in towards each other, but I also read elsewhere that due to the bolt spacing on the tophat there is only one way for it to go. I had to rework my driver side Koni shock install and made sure that the arrow was pointing in the right direction when I put it back in. I am wondering if its necessary to recheck the passenger side if in fact its true that there is only one way for it to go as long as you have it on the correct side of the vehicle.. so basically I can't have gotten it wrong.

True or False ?

Has anyone had this issue with HFP suspension? I am getting what seems to be the same noise after I installed the HFP springs and dampers. I haven't pulled the front damper/spring combo off yet, but I see a green dot on the exposed rubber portion (no white line or arrow). I have two questions:

(1) Did anyone else with the HFP notice a white line on the metal part of the top hat, and if so, did it line up with the green dot (I didn't notice when I first put mine on)?
(2) Does the top hat rotate without taking the assembly apart?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I pulled off both sides of the front HFP suspension today. Just for reference, there are in fact yellow paint marks and an etched arrow on the top hat. Also, the HFP top hat can rotate to point in the correct direction.

Now, onto what i discovered. In my situation, the arrows (and yellow marks) on both sides were both pointed towards the front of the car (well technically, it is towards the front, and slightly towards the outside of the car--the other possible direction was towards the other side, but towards the interior of the cabin).

The creaking/groaning sound is still there. I don't believe it is the bump stops because i get the noise even when the springs aren't compressing.

The noise sounded much lower on the car. It almost sounds like it is coming from the power steering. I am taking the car to a professional soon, and will report back.

Yeah true. I will most likely give it a shot this weekend if the weather is nice.

Would I be able to loosen the top three bolts and look to serif the arrow is pointed correctly? Just like honda claimed. The reason being I don't want to take the whole strut out and have to get an alignment.

Let me know your thoughts and I will report back.

You have to undo the 3 bolts on the top hat. Remove at least one bolt out of the two from the bottom of the shock and you should be able to push the front caliper down and kinda move the shock like a lever to get a good look at it.

It is recommended to get an alignment even if you just remove one bolt from the suspension. Camber and Toe are very prone to change when messing with the suspension. You should be getting an alignment even if you take it to Honda. There is no way for them to check the top hat without removing some nuts at least.

This fixed the groaning/creaking in my car. I had installed the top hat with the arrow pointing away from the front of the car on the passenger side. The quality of the Moog top hats is pretty good. I also didn't compress my Neuspeed sport springs enough the first time before bolting the top hat down. It now doesn't have the groaning.
