Removed resonator = vibration... help!

Hey all,

I drive a 08 Si coupe. I just removed the resonator and the tubes that connect it to the intake yesterday so it's acting like a short RAM intake. The sound is louder and I noticed a little difference with the drive. But there's this weird vibration when I step on the throttle hard; in rpms 3000 and higher. It's a quite noticable vibration where you can... actually feel the car vibrating.. hahaha.. Has anybody notice this happening to their cars?

Also, for the people who actually installed a short RAM intake, how does it feel? Is there a vibrating sensation? lol

Thanks

I'll give some input.

For my old R18, I had the first gen AEM CAI that I was able to get replaced for the newer version (big issue back then). During the waiting process, I ran only the airbox, no resonator. It sounded slightly louder, but zero vibration or funny noises. When I reinstalled the new AEM CAI, my car would vibrate like no other when idling. It was terrible.

Now, for my 06 SI, I have a Fujita SRI. It is beautiful. It does not idle violently. I think I may understand what you mean by 'vibrating' past 3000 RPMs. For me, it is more of a raspy kind of sound. You can really feel the intake working as you accelerate on it hard, and it's kinda neat. Otherwise, there are no funny vibrations.

Perhaps you have some bolts loose? Maybe you can try to zip-tie some parts down to ensure that there is no movement. I did that for my old CAI and it kind of helped.

Good luck!

When I first got mine, I noticed a vibration around 3000 rpm, when I rev the engine in neutral.

I believe it's just the car's body being at the same natural frequency as the "usually unnoticeable" vibration from the engine, causing resonance.

Removing the resonator shouldn't cause the entire car to vibrate.

However, if the vibration keep getting worse as your rpm increases.. then it might be another story.
