well i work in an area where i dont get bored. trust me, this isnt a pleasent place.

so i dont go about giving out stupid tickets
i dont see why ur taking such offense to this whole thread. maybe your not a bias cop, but they are out there. that is all the people are trying to get across here, especially where I live. Naperville police have way to much time on their hands and will do anything to give someone a ticket. Yes i understand there are a lot of stupid people out there that deserve these tickets but some people do nothing wrong and they will still try hassling those people. You prolly a good cop, and no one is doubting that.

i got a ticket for a modified exhaust when i had a stock exhaust on ym BMW 325i '92. the officer just would not listen to me, even though i repeatedly told her it was stock. i got a letter from a technician at the BMW dealer and i brought it to court. the judge would not accept it. he said i should fight the ticket and subpeana the tech for my trial.

he told me i should try the sherrifs office downstairs and have them look at it to see that it is stock. i went there, and they said they have no way to dertermine if the exhaust is orignial or stock. i should go to the CHP office and have them use their equipment. i go there and the officer just laughs and cant believe what the other guys have been telling me and he writes it off without even looking at the car.

i dont know about florida, but in california, this is a fix-it ticket. if you fix it, the fine drops to $10. if you put your old muffler on, find an officer to sign the ticket as fixed, youll only have to pay $10. and you can just put your catback on later.

in almost everywhere, i find that officers are just doing their job. they dont nit pick about silly things like this, and i have great respect for them. i think its just a small number that give any headaches like this one.

It's not really everyone, you know as well as I do that there are a few bad ones. But you are right. I was generalizing a bit. That experience was before I even got into Law enforcement into the first place. Now that I'm in federal law enforcement though, it's pretty easy to bash a little. You know how feds are, we think we're better than everyone.
hahahahahahaha well at least you admit it.

what branch are you?

That's exactly what I tell the people around me who say things like "I hate ******* cops."

I tell them right away, without law enforcement, we would probably have been shot already. They're here to protect us, not to just make your mood terrible.

Not true, there is no Quota system and the cops I know(I am in a Law Enforcement Program at school) say that they really only ticket when they absolutely have to(here in SD).

They even tell us they turn a blind eye to small things like tints and No fronts license plate sometimes(unless they are pulled over for something serious in which the charges will be added).

But yeah here in San Diego cops get paid Really good and dont need to prove them selves useful. Their number one mission as said by them is to protect the safety and well being of the people and not to increase the budget of the city
A ******* DAMN MEN

When I lived in Tampa I got pulled over in the Brandon area by a cop that looked no older than me. (20s) and the first thing out of his mouth was that my kind of car was one of his pet peeves and then he started to spout off about violating a noise ordinance. I looked around me and its an industrial area, not exactly mom, dad and the kids playing outside. I went to court, the first meeting with the judge, the officer isn't present. so the whole cop won't shop up thing doesn't matter. What you do is enter your plea and the judge hears your story. If it's your first offense the judge most likely will dismiss the ticket but make you pay court costs, around $27, $17 if they waive a few things and you're done. When I got up there, (you wait for the hundreds of people scheduled for that day to go first) and I told the judge what the cop had said about his pet peeves and then I said , you know I really didn't realize that police work had anything to do with the officers personal biases. Then I told the judge about the noise ordinance that i had supposedly broken, after some research it turns out that there is no such ordinance in that area, let alone any areas in Brandon, including residential areas. The cop was just a jackass and the judge told me it was dismissed but also added that I needed to get my car fixed. I work in a law firm out of Tallahassee now and it really is amazing what cops get away with when people choose not to fight their tickets
maybe you should think about your bias.

actually forget it. try making your next post in the into area....

I was almost ticketed for this bullshit as well. I believe this law needs to be changed. The night I was pulled over for this I was downtown where a lot of the local tuner crowd hangs out... the cop walks up to the car and says, "I'm going to start with you..." (can you say, quota?) basically he's saying "you'll be the first one to be ticketed for your rice exhaust tonight" (even though I have performance race-header & full cat-back exhaust). Thank god the cop was ex-navy and I'm a member of the Air Force, we ended up BS'ing and he let me go with a warning and even wrote down the code for me to look up. He said to drop in a silencer and I wouldn't even be bothered. :D

There is no difference between young cops and old cops...that's about stupid. Plus those outrageous loud annoying mufflers should be ticketed, no one wants to hear that. They just put a new ordiance in effect here on the coast for loud music, no one wants to hear other peoples music blaring and bass making my car shake.
Then why doesn't harley's get pulled over, they are louder than f*** or even the domestic muscle cars?!?!? Dual standard it think.

bottom line:

-like many other people mentioned, exhaust may be illegal in your area despite the rather deceptive "50 state legal" clause that only refers to federal standards, and not individual states, cities, and etc.

-and since you are using an illegal product, accept the consequences and don't complain.

-if you don't like the law, it's your fault. you can petition to change it. However, if it is already illegal in your area, i doubt you would get much support. we live in a democratic republic afterall, so it's your responsibility to enact change.

-and if you don't know the law in your area, it is your responsibility to find out by taking a quick trip to police hq or city hall.

-yes, it may seem unfair that they only ticket a hand full of illegal fart cans and tinted windows and etc., but that's life. they can't enforce everything. hell, cops can't respond to every jaywalker there is. but laws are laws, and we must do our best to stick by them.
