Hi I have this 2006 Honda Civic and my AC compressor and the two large fan behind the radiator always stays on. As soon as i turn my key start position both of my AC fans start spinning even without starting the car. And I can see the AC compressor clutch active all the time when the car is running even though all of my dials are in off position, defrosting is off along with any other AC button since there are no light is active in the AC control panel. And the lights work as soon as I turn on AC or any other function on the AC control panel like changing the air outlets, defrost etc and I also start to get cold or hot air like normal. One more thing I’ve noticed is that, cold airflow turns off randomly after few minutes when I’m driving on highway speed constantly.

If I take the AC relay off, then one of the two fan turns off behind the radiator and also AC compressor goes off or if I unplug the power connection to the compressor over the alternator (and this is the only time the compressor turns off truly) otherwise it always stays active.

In summary my AC works like normal to send cold or hot air when turned on but the AC compressor and the fans stays active regardless if it is on or off in the control panel as soon as I put the key in start position.

I can’t seem to figure out what’s wrong with it or if there is any short that is keeping my AC on all the time.

Hello,

Since both the fans and the compressor are running all of the time, my first guess would be a faulty HVAC control panel. Does the blower motor also run all of the time or just the compressor and fans?

Since it's a 2006, I would replace the HVAC control panel with a 2010 and up unit. My fans on my 2008 were constantly at maximum all the time. Went to the junkyard and bought a panel from a 2010 for $12.

The panel circuitboards were updated in mid 2009, so some 2009 panels are the new ones as well. Not all years are compatible, and coupe and sedan units are different. Someone made a list of which years you needed, but I can't seem to find it on here.

I just had that problem and a $23.00 AC control panel from the junkyard fixed it.
Good Luck,

Thank you very much...I'll go check on my junk yard and try to fix it.

Check on out this link:

It is for a way to have the Defrost work without turning on the A/C. After doing this simple process you have to press the A/C button after selecting defrost as it should be.

I know its not relevant but everyone should do this. For being such a great company Honda can make some boneheaded decisions. Its weird though, they make a simple end around to correct/change this but dont inform us about it.

WTF is the logic behind not letting Civic owners control the a/c when defrosting? Also, they build into the system a simple way to to give us control but they dont let us know in the owners manual or anywhere else for that matter. So like I said...WTF Honda.
