Ok so I helped this guy install an eclipse nav/dvd player in his 8th gen.
All went smooth, up until now.
Basically the thing will not turn off. I take the key out of the ignition and it does not turn off, it stays on. The only way the thing turns off is when I click audio off and then it shuts down.

Also, radar detector is plugged into and that dont turn off till the unit does.
any help would be greatly appreciated, which wire would i have to double check?

your accessory wire from the radio isn't hooked up to the accessory wire from the car, it's connected to a wire that has power at all times (the yellow battery wire probably).

or maybe it's a setting in the HU, I haven't messed with eclipse. Read the manual and see if it has a setting that requires you to press the power button to turn the radio off.

Is the radar detector plugged into an output wire of the HU or the accessory wire?

You probably just mixed up ignition wire and acc wire, just change em, but you should use a test light, or multimeter on it if you are unsure which wires are what. And as for previous quotes, don't use color to determine your hook ups, ALL CARS ARE DIFFERNT RED IS NOT ALWAYS POWER AND YELLOW IS NOT ALWAYS ACC, look up wire diagrams, or use proper guides or plugs.

This is true, but hopefully he's using a harness kit and not t-clamping the HU's wires directly to the factory harness. To my knowledge, all aftermarket HUs and harness kits go by a standard (black=ground; red=accessory; yellow=constant +;even the speaker wire colors should be the same). This makes installation easier allowing you to match the wire colors and be done.

To Uranium980:

You did use a harness kit, right?

i did do a harness kit.
I read stuff last night and i realized that the eclipse harness came with like 2 wires that confused me. It has an acc wire, and a amp turn on wire. I figured amp turn on meant switched 12v, and so those wires are mixed up. going to fix it now.

thanks for the help guys!
