My Greddy EVO2 cat-back exhaust came in yesterday for my '06 GG Si, so I immediately headed over to my uncle's to install it and change my oil. He has a 10k lbs car lift in his garage which is REALLY handy.
Exhaust:
First off, the quality of the muffler is beyond compare. All stainless steel with perfect welds. Of course it was welded up by a robot, but someone really knew what they were doing when they setup the process. The overlapping coins on the welds were perfect.
This was a piece of cake to install. 3 nuts at the cat and 2 bolts at the muffler, pull the rubber mounts off the posts and the old one is off. Put the rubber mounts on the new exhaust's posts, mount it up, and re-install the nuts and bolts. I've read where people had trouble getting the 3 nuts off at the cat, but I had no problem whatsoever. Having it up on the lift may have been the difference.
Oil Change:
I only had 3800 miles on the car, but decided to change it anyway. I put in Royal Purple, 5w30 of course. The drain plug had absolutely zero metal shavings or particles on the magnet... most impressive for the first oil change. The oil filter was a pain in the butt to get off. I bought a filter cap/wrench for it, but it apparently wasn't the right size because it kept slipping off. I ended up taking a really long screwdriver and putting the blade along the bottom of the filter and used a hammer to tap on it just slightly off-center until it came loose. No, I didn't do the "old school" put the screwdriver through the filter.
100+ miles later:
I don't know if it's the new oil or the muffler, but a cold engine no longer jerks if I don't give it a lot of gas in 1st gear. The engine overall seems to be running smoother and slightly more responsive to acceleration. The sound from the muffler is awesome. It doesn't seem to be any louder than stock, but it definitely has a deeper growl. The only complaint I have is the smell from the new exhaust. I've heard that this is normal and it did seem to be going away toward the end of the day.
