so 87 octane is normal or high octane?
It's all normal but 87 is usally the lowest.
89 or higher.. i only use 93

just lisiten to ur motor put in some 87 and see if u hear any knock, if so use a higher octane..

very low rpms is when u will hear it... anyway just my opinion..
You aren't doing yourself any good you should only use the octane that the manufacture recommends. Using different octane even higher than recommended octane will make you lose gas mileage.
For instance, if I begin using Octane 89 should I stick with it forever? (for engine conservation).
It doesn't matter, only use whats recommended unless you mod and give the engine more of a load then you can increase your octane with no problems.
89 give you no gains rofl...
its actually worse...car is not desighned to run on higher octane levels
You are correct, sir.
what kind of car uses 89, 93, 95, etc. etc.?
Specified by the manufacture. Usually 93-95 octane ratings are for the higher performing cars with Forced Induction(such as Turbochargers/Superchargers) or higher than normal compression ratios (usually above 10:1). Any type of normal daily driving cruiser such as EX, LX, SE models will only need to use octane levels of 85-89.
