Best location for a radar detector is as low as possible while retaining a view from front and back windows...cops shoot radar and lazer low on your car where the flattest part of your car is :)

wrong....your looking to get the STRAY signals not the main signal...if you catch those your already to late

Sorry to bring this post back up, but i couldn't resist to open it after I read the "perfect location." Kind of got me worried cause I was hoping it wouldn't beat mine but it turned out its the same exact position :D

Anyways I have the tank of all RD's (V1 FTW) and I've mounted it to the same exact spot. Only thing i've done was the fact that the V1 clip is not like the one used by the OP and I had to use the suction cups...

Suction cups on dot matrix obviously doesn't work so I've used some 3M dual sided tape and then mount the V1 with the suction cups. V1 holds just fine and stays perfectly at a straight angle, and the front sensors have a clear view underneath the dot matrix and to the rear as well, so no compromise there.

im gonna hardwire my v1 in the next month and try to integrate the heads up into the dash, got my second speeding ticket today for 80 in a 55... ****** used ESP (basically radar doesnt detect it) but he saw my v1 and laughed...

it has saved me a few times and I just need to find better placement, I noticed I put it on the right hand side of the car (and use the sun visor clip) then run the telephone cable down the pillar's thru the glovebox and to the cig lighter.... my plan is to run the cable into my dash and when I install my avic d3 im gonna try to find a way to cut out a section where I can put the display of the v1... well dunno what I am tryint to accomplish by posting here but I guess just see what any1 else thinks, even if im spammin some1 elses thread..

but nice writeup dude, my last radar detector was hooked up to the dome and i had to turn it off and on (dome is always hot), or at least I couldnt find the right place...

or slow down....

i did this today...took about 15 minutes.....extremely easy. but i got an accessory car outlet that had the poitive and ground cables on it. i just wired that into the fuse and plugd the original wire from the radar detector into the accessory outlet.

nice install. i did a similar install but wired my radar into the sunroof wiring, so it was pretty quick to install. lot less wires to run. just needed a little telephone wire, and thats all she wrote...

i ran my 8500 the same way. but i put mine on the right side of the mirror. that way its kinda hidden. Plus where you have it kinda impares your view. I used the other diy on this site that uses your interior lights.

Also you guys who think the lower that the radar detector the better are wrong. You need to do research. Its like if you lay your head on the ground and see how far you can see. Now stand up and do the same. You get much better distance the higher it is. And cobras are pure ****. Might as well use a crystal ball because thats how effective it is.:wigglesmiley:
