I believe that it's up to the Honda you take it to (whether they want to go through the hassle or not). They would have to check with the DSM( District Service Manager) to get an approval to be paid by warranty. This is in a sense a safety issue though. Shouldn't be under wear and tear because that can be potentially very dangerous.

 

i have to put the seat back in tonight b/c i need to be able to drive it tomorrow, i may just take it to a guy my dad knows who is a professional welder and could probably fix it up for me, what do you guys think i should do? go thought the hassle with honda?

 

I don't think they will cover it. But you should still give it a try. What's up with all the surface rust? Was your car in a flood?

 

Mild steel can rust if you accidentally left your windows down and got rain in the car or you drove around with the windows down on a humid day. Why does a car need to be flooded to have rust on ****ty steel?

 

How long is your warranty with Honda? but if it was me I probably would have let the welder Mig weld it for me seems way less of a hassle of arguing with Honda if they say no but its up to you it doesn't hurt to try Honda If you will like But I already said my opinion Good Luck man

 

I think im just gonna take it to get it welded, but has this ever happened before to anyone on these forums? i tried searching but never found a thread about anything related to this. I guess i must be the first

thats what i wonder, the previous owner was a big guy tho id say maybe 220-240ish. he must have done a bellyflop onto the seat

 

wow. definately a first. I'd take it to Honda and ask politely to have it covered under warranty and if they say no ask to talk to the DM and tell them that you'd like them to contact the NHTSA about it as you feel it's a safety issue, not "wear and tear"...

If that doesn't work, go get it welded...

 

good point. if the stealership tries to push you away you could always drop a line like "gee if my seat supports failed, i wonder how many more will. That wont be good for Honda's rep if people find out their civics aren't safe"

 

They won't cover it, your bumper to bumper was up a long time ago. most warranties they give you are extended warranties that only cover the powertrain.

 

Just get it welded and save yourself the headache and time.Also stop let fat chicks drive your car.

They will cover it. It's clearly a factory defect and a huge safety issue. If they didn't you could take them to court.

 

Oh on second read through that looks like the previous owner was in an accident and didn't get a proper repair.

In that case I would get that fixed (part replaced) and get your entire vehicle checked out.

You could very well be driving a death trap. If it was a bad enough accident to break a seat it could have very well broken some other things. I would't trust a weld to fix that.

Not worth the hassle - just weld it carefully.

 

My concern would not be the seat alone, it would be the rest of the car. Obviously the

shop that "fixed" this seat didn't do a good job. Which indicates they may have done a

bad job repairing the accident damage for the entire car. Bad things can happen when a

car has been repaired incorrectly.

Please take it to a pro or the dealer and have the car looked through.

Car was never in a wreck, the previous owner took very good care of it ( he was a fat guy so i assume he just jumped in the seat a lil too hard..) , I called honda and they said they couldn't do anything for me, a new seat rack is $900... so im taking it to a professional welder today to get it done right, thanks for all the input guys ill post of pictures after i get it welded
