maybe a seized caliper? did u check ur pads/rotors. Usually shouldnt happen unless for a real old car. take a quick look at ur rotors and look for any scoring.

 

hmm...I have an 07 Fg2, only 50k on it. It's night out, so I can't really take a look right now. It does have that metal on metal break squeeling sound. Would the seized caliper effect the way it drove? The car is driving perfectly normal.

 

on the free way does it kinda sound like a jar of change being spun around? i might have the same problem.

 

Maybe your brake dust shield got bent by a rock and is rubbing. :shrug:

 

I havn't driven with it on the free way yet...it just happened, and I didn't driver faster than 40 with it. The faster I drove the louder it seemed to get. Although, I just backed it down my driveway and drove it back up...no sound at all.

 

When was the last time you changed your rear brakes?
My car squealed at one time, it happened only when I drove. Turned out my rear brakes were done.

 

Never since I bought the car, which was about 10 months ago.

 

It's a little piece of metal that is attached to one of the brake pads. It will contact the rotor when there is only a few millimeters left on the pads.

 

oh, ok...So if i take off the wheel, and turn you think I should be able to hear something, and if it's the wear indicator rubbing, I should be able to locate it.

well another thing is do u hear it ONLY when u brake? or if ur driving. a caliper seized but not too hard u may not notice a pull. When my rear one seized on my teg i noticed no pulls. BUt at a stop something STANK like a mofo.

like clutch burn with brake fluid mixed in but something i have never smelled before. so i walked around and smelled it around my rear driver wheel then i went to touch the lugs and they were on FIRE compared to the other lugs on the other wheels thats how i found out.

the wear indicator should only squeal when u get on the brake not at ALL times unless the caliper is partially seized. ANother thing it may be is wheel bearing issue (that jar of change sound) is most similar to a wheel bearing going out.

One test is to jack it up and wiggle the wheel. If there is play in it then u prob have a bad wheel bearing

 

hmm yeah, i know exactly what you are talking about. I had a seized caliper on my Celica. This is def something completely different. I feel that it doesnt have to do with the brakes. The squeel is when i drive, not necissarily when I brake. It's def more similar to the "jar of change sound". I was thinking maybe something to do with the struts...no clue really.

 

well at least that is what i did. does top and bottom make a difference? or maybe both lol

Having the same problem as the OP. I cant figure it out. First thought it was the passenger side axle but we changed it and put a brand new one in and Im still having the Loud sound. Its pretty much anytime I hit the gas and gets louder the more gas I give it. I started noticing the sound when I was coming home one night and some **** cut me off and slammed on his brakes in front of me. I slammed on my brakes pretty hard and the car jerked to one side. Ever since than im hearing that sound

Update...I replaced the front pads and rotors. Good as new!

It was so goddamn cold and damp outside that moister built up on my rotors and froze up....plus my brake pads were barely existent.

 

moisture on the rotors? i don't know how because they get hot as fawk even under light braking. How much meat was left on the brake pads you replaced? Barely existant as in on or almost on the backing plate? or could it have been the wear indicator scraping the rotor you think?

 

Yeah, if the car is sitting for a while, there can be moisture that gets in there. Barely existent as in there was not much meat left. Less than 1/4" ...I forgot what the exact measurement was. Def could have been the wear indicator scraping as well.

 

hmm i've heard of rust on the rotors..but either way..did yo uhave the stock rotors machined or actually replaced?..if replaced, did you go with OEM parts?

 

Exactly..I thought that the moisture caused rotors to rust. N E ways I didn't have them machined, completely replaced. Brought it to my buds shop to see if they could be machined. Decided to do a full replacement...Didn't go with OEM
