I've been lurking these forums a bit and it looks like honda is known for there short lasting paint. Here is what is starting to happen all over my car:

Will this require a brand new paint job, or is there a cheaper fix?

And if you don't take care of It the base coast under the clear that's showing now will start to fail and fade and then down to the primer then down to the bare metal. Then rust and eventually death of the metal

Mostly people from hot super sunny places like California where you're from, Florida where I'm at and several other hot sunny places are the ones to suffer from it.

I came to understand that it doesn't matter how much you wash and wax your paint/clearcoat, it inevitably suffers and fails cause the cheapass clear that Honda uses isn't strong enough.

Thats why I wanted a TW Si but couldnt find one so ended up with CGM.

well I guess everyone with the taffeta white paintjob on the 8th is safe then.

Lucky you guys...

I didn't wanna deal with those problems so I traded my car. Got silver which is brighter and also assuming it was painted with better quality paint and clear coat being a different car manufacturer.

My car is Royal Blue Pearl and Im in Texas and I am also experiencing clear coat failure. Go to your local dealership and tell them about it even though its past its warranty they may still repaint it since it is a defect and they (Honda) is aware of it. I havent gotten mine done yet I am waiting to hear from the Honda rep but when I went in they were very receptive like they've done it before. We all need to complain so they can recall it if we all just talk about it they wont do anything you know the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

honda knows that they used cheap clear codes techniques . that's why they have been approving for fixies and repaints on clear coats for customers . They are aware of the problem and are trying to make it right. But not for everyone. If you can have most of your car repainted then lucky you. It isn't that easy for others.

the only reason you people are having problem with your paint is because you don't take care of your cars exterior. blame yourself, not honda's paint lol. i had a 2000 Civic up until October of last year and the paint was immaculate. all original. make sure there's protectant/sealant on your car and that kind of fading/breakdown wont happen.

also, honda's taffeta white contains titanium oxide which makes it super durable and requires no clearcoat. it's a pain to polish also.
