The purpose for this thread is to outline my research, build, and installtion of FN2 Civic Type R tachometer and speedometer clusters into my 2010 Civic Si sedan.
Please don't post negative comments. I don't want future readers to have to sift through page after page of how many people don't think this is a worthwhile mod. If you think that, this thread isn't for you.
Ever since I set eyes on the FN2, I was in love. I was pretty disasspointed when I found out Honda had no plans to release it anywhere in North America. So I settled for a few videos and photos, and eventually bought my FA5. Even then, I felt like it lacked something, style wise. A large part of what draws me to a car is the interior. It's where you spend 100% of your driving time, so you should always enjoy what you're looking at. Well the FN2 tach cluster calls to me. I find it simple, yet elegant, and much more so than the FA5's factory clocks. So, about a year and a half ago, I set out to find a set of clusters. Only recently have I gotten my hands on some, which brings me to this point.
I don't have pictures to post right now. I'm limited on what I can do on my work computer, so I'll update the post tonight with what I do have so far. Current updates will include pictures.
So here's some basic info to get started. I'll go into detail about each portion as I move forward with the project.
I started off with wiring diagram research. What would I need to make it work, if at all possible. The US Civic service manuals are easy to get ahold of since I work for Honda. The Euro Civic manuals, not so much. After much digging, a few emails and PMs, someone on a Type R forum sent me the necessary schematics that I needed. Most of the pins where in the correct position and only a few needed to be moved, a couple were omitted due to integrated controls on the cluster, and one will have to be added once I finish my auto climate control conversion.
The size of the cluster is huge compared to the factory one. There will definitely be some work involved in mounting and fitting a garnish for it, but I'm ready for it. Using some inspriation from "portabuddy," (see this thread: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/i-c-...rical-security-navigation/87556-portabuddys-car-puter-w-10-screen-200-pics.html ) I feel like I can make the FN2 clusters feel at home in the FA5. I did also purchase the FN2 tachometer garnish, with all of the climate controls and push button start, but have two climate controls in the dash would be beyond redundant. More on this later.
