Long story short... i'm getting my bumper replaced because somebody hit it.

The body shop said after he paints the bumper, he'll have to also paint some of my hood so the paint blends in better. What do you guys think of this blending?

I kinda dont want the blend becuase the car is so new. But then again.... i dont know much about anything. The guy says he always blends.

i have a friend of the family that owns a top notch classic car restoration/body shop and this is how he's taken care of mishaps that my sister has had in the past. according to him the blend makes all the difference...especially on older cars where the paint has already started to fade a little. seems like they should be willing to let you see the bumper after it's painted and then let you make the call though.

I know blends make the difference in older cars, but mine is brand new. Less than 4 months old

no need to blend if it's just the bumper, i am a car painter myself.. he's just charging you for more money =] He should have the right code paint for your car. You only blend the paint if other parts of the car is damage, and your damage on your car is just the bumper.. so no need to blend it

I'm picking up my car today from the body shop. The owner told me that they use the paint code to make the paint. He said that they do not just order paint directly from Honda. He says no bodyshop does that. Since they are making it they have to blend it to the right color according to him. That may explain why they want to do this to your car. I guess I will find out in a few hours when I pick it up. I don't know if this is true or not but that is what the owner told me. My Honda dealer works exclusively with him and they claim he is the best bodyguys around my area.

Why did you bring you car in to the body shop?

My father owns a body shop...the reason they blend it is that there is always a variance in the paint (factory paint varies ever so slightly day to day)....some times it can be right on but if it is off just a little you will not see the difference when it's blended as you would if you only paint the panel. My father had a paint mixing system at his shop and after seing how it's mixed I can see why it varies. Trust me it's worth doing. :thumb:

i work for a bodyshop and let me tell u it's not worth it b/c it's just the bumper and the hood is nowhere near the bumper to even tell a differance if the color is off a little. u only blend when the panels right next to each other. and also depending on the color. what color is ur car? b/c when i got a chip/ding on my fender i was afraid i was gonna have to paint the hood since it was so close. but since my color (FBP) is so new, the paint mixing system doesn't have any other variants of the color so it was easy to mix.

on a side note: i have been doing bodywork for about 3 years now and i just painted my fender and u can't tell the differance at all. i looked so close at the paint that i could count how many pearls were in a square inch on the fender and hood and they are the exact same.......a little bit over the top but u get the point.

Hey so I recently had to repaint my fender. I own a black Hyundai Veloster N (I know I know this is a Honda forum don’t kill me lol). I took it to get detailed and the guy ended up burning through the clear coat so I had to repaint. I got it painted but when I look at the the car from the back, I can tell like if there is either a dent or a color variation. Idk what it is and it’s driving me nuts please help!!!

I have Galaxy Gray. Even if the bumper isnt near the hood, it's right next to the front wheel wells (dont know what that part is called).

As far as it not being worth it money-wise, i'm not paying for it. The guy who hit me is... or his insurance is. I'm basically worried about it looking bad or messing up the factory paint

Someone smaked into my fender in a parking lot. I never saw it happen and he didn't leave a note.
I just got her back and the shop did an amazing job blending in the paint. Looks showroom fresh.
The guy that hit me actually waited outside for somebody to come. It's a good thing i left work early and saw him waiting for me.

Hmmm... i guess i'll go with the blending then

Can you take a pic of yours when youre free?

what i'm saying is that since the bumper doesn't touch the hood there is no point in blending. key word in that BLEND basically means to mix in smooth, kind of like a fade affect with the same color so u don't notice the color change. as far as painting the fenders i still don't see y u he should blend b/c the color is still too new to have many variants. i see the painters over at my job paint bumpers all day with no color match problem whatsoever. hope that aids u in u decision.

Here are some pics of the body work. The first pic is my repaired rear bumper

The next pics is my repaired front fender

Never mind the blemish around the headlight. I got sprayed with a hose by accident and didn't have a rag handy.
Image

Hard to tell in the pics but the guy did a great job.

Does the Fuji Blue color have those little glitter sparkles in the paint like Galaxy Gray does? If it does, did your body shop do a good job with the sparkles?

GG has more metallics than pearls. FBP has way more pearls than metallic. that's the little sparkles ur talkin bout.
