If anyone else has any reviews of this dealership, feel free to post them here as well.

<This post is rather long, you've been warned> :readtherules:

Though I've never purchased a car from Antrim Way, I've visited their service department MANY times. I first took my 1992 Accord EX there for service back in 2009 when I moved to the area. Hagerstown Honda apparently marks their parts up over the MSRP, and Antrim doesn't, so they immediately won for parts just on price.

I was generally happy with their service department. They mounted/balanced a set of tires for the Accord and *tried* to do a 4-wheel alignment. Since the car had been wrecked back in the mid 90's (long before I ever bought it), they got everything "as close as they could" to spec.

My valve cover gasket started to leak on the Accord, which they fixed. Less than 24 hours after being repaired, the camshaft seal was leaking...as in 1+qt leaked in about 300 miles. They fixed this. Within a week, I had another oil leak. At this point, I gave up and decided to sell the car and buy an 8th Gen EX Coupe.

Antrim didn't have what I was looking for, so I ended up purchasing a used 2007 Coupe with 69,404mi. from a VW/BMW dealer in Akron, OH in April 2010. I bought an aftermarket extended warranty to cover the car for 3yr/36,000 miles.

Within the first couple months, I noticed lots of noise coming from the rear. Antrim replaced both rear-wheelbearings at 73,828mi. This made the noise quieter. This repair was covered by the warranty.

A month later (80,190mi), I take it back for excessive noise from the rear and an annoying 2nd gear grind and popping out. This time, I'm told its the rear control arms and that they could not replicate grind (nothing wrong). Decided not to fix because the tires were already worn and would wait until replacing them to fix control arms. This repair was not covered by warranty, so I paid the $90 fee for diagnosis.

2 months later (84,977mi.), The 2nd gear grind is still happening. It's popping out of 2nd more often too. After a week, I got a call that they were "unable to replicate the problem". When I went to pick up the car, I asked for someone to go for a test drive with me. First time I tried to downshift, it grinds. 2nd time I downshift, it grinds. I'm told to push the clutch in further (apparently he didn't hear the pedal hitting the floor). Tech drives it and says the synchro is going but "it's not bad enough, yet" since it didn't grind if slammed forcefully into 2nd. Walked away paying $90 fee for diagnosis, AGAIN. They also lost the key to my car, so I was given a new key and told to come back with my other key to have it reprogrammed. This return trip was a nuisance, but I got over it, glad there wasn't a $90 fee for this!

<Around 90,000 miles I installed the Ingalls Rear Camber kit, got the car aligned, and had tires mounted and balanced elsewhere>

At approx. 92,820mi, I returned AGAIN about the 2nd gear synchro. At this point, I'm having trouble getting it to grab 2nd gear at all. Day 1, wouldn't do it for them. Day 2, it does. I'm given back my car while they order parts.
<19 days, 1800mi. later>
They finally get an appointment scheduled and I drop the car off. Just over 48 hours later, I get a phone call that the car is finished and ready to be picked up. This is where I really get frustrated...

2 days after picking it up, its back at the dealer because not everything was put back together quite right. 11 miles from the dealer, I got a CEL, which a stop at Advance Auto told me was P0404 - EGR Performance. When I popped the hood, I found it unplugged. And the closer I looked, the more little things I found. Airbox not bolted down, plastic pins missing, coolant reservoir empty, power steering reservoir overflowing, gaps in trim that weren't there before (I noticed trim at the dealership before I left...the piece wasn't even snapped down, it was just laying there, so they snapped it down but it still doesn't fit right, possibly because of the missing pins?)

^ Unplugged EGR

^ Bolt on front of Air-box, not even started to thread in.

^ Bolt on lower-back of Air-box, again, not even started to thread in.

^ Missing clips on Driver's Side cowl piece (surrounding wiper arm)

Image

^ Passenger's side Cowl piece (for comparison)

Image

^Power Steering reservoir overfilled (and overflowing)

Image

^ Coolant reservoir empty, unlike it was just a day before dropping it off. (I checked the radiator, and there was coolant in there at least!)

^ Driver's side cowl piece not aligning with fender.
(This piece was popped up when I picked up the car. It was snapped down, but misaligned before I left the dealership)

Today, they picked up the vehicle to fix the above list. But after all the trouble surrounding this second gear problem, I'm quite hesitant to return. I've been generally happy with the service department in the past, but this major repair (which thankfully was mostly covered by the warranty) was not "buttoned-up" properly and leaves me questioning what else was hurriedly done and not quite right under the hood of my car.

After being without my car for an additional 5 hours or so, they brought it back and so far it seems they got it right on the second try. Missing a thing or two is one thing, missing several items is another.

As soon as my warranty runs out (in about 10,000 miles), I'm doing ALL the work on my car myself. Rushing a $1500 repair ($750+ in labor alone) and leaving several loose ends doesn't sit well with me.

Well, that's my experience ... Take it for what it's worth.

I'm an engineer and I work with lawyers on a regular basis for my job, so yeah I'm usually pretty good at thoroughly documenting things. Also, doing the maintenance and detailing work on the car myself, I have the car pretty well memorized down to the VIN number. :eek:mg: Dealers have called me crazy when I've walked in and given them the VIN # off the top of my head to order parts. :screwy:

Thankfully, the ordeal is over and (hopefully) all the bugs are now worked out.

Really sad to hear about your ordeal with Antrim Way. I'm on my 5th new Honda from them. Tried Hagerstown Honda twice, and it was the typical car salesman routine. Kept me for 2 hours and refused to give me price quote till I "shopped" the other dealers. Went to Antrim and had a good price quote in 15 minutes. Went back to Hagerstown and they couldn't match it, but two days later the salesmanager calls and beats the price by $50. I told them "too late" already bought from Antrim. Since my cars have always been new, I have not had major repairs done, but have always been very satisfied with the service. Antrim is much more family like than Hagerstown. And you can't beat their waiting area. I enjoy my service appointments. I usually plan on having lunch there and then sit around watching tv. I have noticed that since they moved to the new showroom, they are pushing additional services whenever possible. This may sound like a plug for them, and it is, because I think they are a great operation, but I do not work there. Currently own 05 Pilot, 06 Civic EX, and 2010 Si.

Looking back over my review, I realized that I didn't give due weight to the number of times I was happy and satisfied with their service department. Much of the problems with the Accord were not their fault but issues with the car's age, not the quality of the repair. Honestly, I've told coworkers and friends to make the drive to Antrim and give them a try, and many have with great success. I honestly hope this was an isolated occurrence and that they're just short-staffed and rushing to keep up with the business they're getting. They really are like family, as you say. Most dealerships would simply tell you that your car is in need of brakes and that they should be done while the car is there. My service adviser at Antrim showed how well he knew me by saying "I know you do a lot of work on the car yourself, but your brakes are at the limit we normally recommend replacing them at. Would you like us to take care of those while your car is in for service or would you prefer to do that yourself?" :clapping: It's those kinds of personal touches that tell you Antrim Way is not your ordinary sales/service department.

Whether or not you work at Antrim Way or not, your claims are believable based on my previous experiences before this last repair. Again, I hope this is an isolated incident due to a shortage of staff and an overabundance of work to do.

i didnt buy from antrim way honda due to the fact that i had a much better experiance from hagerstown honda with finding my car.
they also would go lower on the car rather then the full retail that antrim way wanted.
although i like the department itself and the atmosphere of the dealership at antrim way.
also i used antrim way for oil changes and that was ok.
I wondered where you bought your car at...I saw it in another thread that you hadn't purchased from Antrim Way. As I mentioned in response to ptharv, the family-like atmosphere is definitely present at Antrim Way, and that's what attracted me to the dealership and kept me coming back.

In an effort of full disclosure though, doesn't your sister work for Antrim Way? I'm not saying that it in any way affects your review, as it seems very honest and unbiased.

Happy :driving: everyone!
