What is it and where does it go? Could the absence of it be the cause of my car becoming very hot and being laggy (not accelerating smoothly)?

This came off while getting HIDs and fogs installed. Right after I got a CEL; this is probably not the cause of it but I'd like to put it back on and check.

UPDATE: I resetted the ECU and the CEL went away. I haven't driven it yet but the car still sounds much louder (like if you remove the tube going to the air box resonator).

Maybe if I knew where it went I could find other parts that came off as well?

I was getting HIDs/fogs put in and the guy said it was loose there and that he wasn't sure where it went.

That plastic I can tell you know probably just his wires in the engine somewhere. Just look for exposed cables. Should be a lot and distribution pattern same to that piece. May just protect wires from heat and provide a more clean look. :shrug: got me stumped seems like only plausible solution

On the under side it just says:

and then has four clock-like circles with different digits and an arrow pointing to one in each:

Please do! Do you think this could be causing the lag/noise/does it have anything to do with air flow?

just checked and cant find it. but have a look/feel on the top of the motor over the fuel rail and see if there is a cover over it.

i dont think it has anything to do with air flow, kinda serves the same purpose as the spark plug cover. what year is your car? there might be another reason for your car running hot.

2006 LX. No problems at all prior to the HID/fog lights install. It just so happens that this piece came off at the same time and brought upon the CEL so it's hard to narrow down what caused the heat/loudness.
