Can anyone tell me how wheel offsets figure in when selecting aftermarket wheels? I've seen brief mentions here and there about how selecting wheels with improper offsets can actually cause long term damage to the car.
The proper offset is a huge deal. You can, obviously, have all kinds of clearance problems, put unnecessary stress on wheel bearings, screw up your handling, brakes, etc. You can't go wrong staying as close to the factory offset as possible. The bolt pattern for the Civics is a very common one - lots of wheels out there that will fit. The wheel companies are usually pretty knowledgeable and can help you make sure everything lines up the way it should. Just be careful - especially if you're buying used wheels from an individual.
