Today I saw aout 10 cops on my way to school. Each one of them had pulled somone over. Now Im a college kid who cannot get a ticket. I usually drive 5-10 miles above the speed limit (flame me if you want)

I decided now that I am getting a Si it will turn heads, especially the cops heads. And i need a descent detector that will tell me where a cop is.

My budget is around 200. Thanks

honestly - I'd vote no detector. I went without one for over 3 years - no tickets. Got a radar detector and over the next 3 years - got 3 speeding tickets.

I think the radar detector almost makes you feel protected when it's a joke. As soon as you hear a beep - I have news for ya: He's already got you on laser. Also most detectors can be detected by cops radar now I hear. SOoooooo what kind of a message are you sending to cops if they see you're sporting a radar detector?

be the cop - you see a guy going 15mph over without a detector
you see a guy going 15 over with a detector.

which would u pull over if you had to pull one over?

From cops I've talked to in the past they said the guy with the detector. They said it kind of makes a statement of how you drive. He said people that don't have one - it might be an accident. They said spending the money on a detector shows that you plan on going over the speed limit.

Take it for what it's worth.

maybe a penny

dont detectors work in the way that they notice when people ahead of you are getting checked? So you get an early warning.... i mean i just want to know when there is a cop around... sometimes i just go too fast and catch myself going 80 when the limit is 55. It happens cuase traffic is going so fast and if you are the one going 55 your askin for highbeams =P

there is such a thing as "instant on" kabs.

Meaning a cop is sitting in the median or whatever and points the thing at your car. Boom- you're done. The detector will go off, but the laser has already read your speed. There isn't a whole lot that can be done. Same goes for a police officer driving behind you. If he turns it on - it's on. Not all cops just sit and let the laser go non stop.

this could help you if you want to understand radar more.

Kabs, I agree with everything Webby has said and would like to add one thing. Set your cruise control. I set mine at 7 over and roll through radar traps all the time.

No radars here in Hawaii, Just lasers. I heard laser jammers are good. It sends a bad signal back to the gun, giving the gun on readout, just dashes.

It's bad. I'm gonna try and say I wasn't doing 85 mph, but we'll see. Court date is just around the corner. I already went to driving school last time I was busted speeding, I didn't learn nothing I didn't already know from there. It just helped clean all the points off my record. I hope I don't have to goto back to driving school again! :banghead:
Since then I have been to a racing school and been taught how to drive fast in a racecar. I did learn somthing there though, how to speed..lol

No it was a 55mph zone. I'll let you know how bad I get burned here in a couple of weeks. I'm really hoping to get it thrown out since the friggin cop wouldn't let me get out of my car and see it on the radar gun. I think his radar gun is messed up.
