Realiability already owns them....
For real, the new GTI is already having tranny problems (clutch chatter, clutch failure), along with some electrical problems. VW is WAAAAY overpriced for what you get.

TOTALLY agreed! If VW would build a quality product! I would of purchased a TDI Jetta, but for 30k I dont think its WORTH it. Also a friend had a jetta...as soon as he got it... NOTHING but problems....:eek:mg:
Quick true story for everyone......i won't get into details. Friends dad goes to look at a jetta in the showroom at Medina Auto Mall. He goes to open the door and the handle assembly pops out of the door. Kinda funny but no big deal right? They take it out of the showroom and he realises there is no rearview mirror.....the salesman says it fell off and the service dept. will fix it. Going down the road.....everything is cool. He goes to roll down the windows (playing with buttons) and the front passenger window falls halfway in the door off track! BWAHAHA! :gaygiggle :help:

So he ended up buying a mazda (like that's any better)

And another thing, what's up with the "german engineering" scheme that VW is trying to pull? The BRAND NEW 2006 TURBOCHARGED 2.0L engine makes 200hp....wooooooooow. Your engineering is awesome! How about not....considering the k20z3 makes that n/a. VW pisses me off and my best friend owns one. The last generation VW golf had a solid rear axle!! hello 1960's. Give me a break, their new scheme should be "how to make a boring car and find a way to charge a ton of money for it". Don't even get me started on low ego emissions.

My girlfriend is looking at picking up a 2001 VW Golf GL 2.0. Seems to be pretty good mechanically but there are quite a few glitches. The knob to move the power mirrors has broken off. The cup holders have broken ($125 CAD quoted for the part alone from a local VW dealer). The side mirrors have a blue tint finish that is cracking and peeling, making the mirrors unusable. Oh, and the fuel economy isn't rated very good for the car.. oh well..
same exact car my best friend has.

Well, I might as well jump on the anti-VW bandwagon with a little story of my own...
A friend of mine was going back to TO from Ottawa and decided to stop in (we went to high school together, but I don't see him too often since I don't live in TO anymore). He was driving his mom's 99 Jetta... over the course of the weekend, the AC compressor broke down (making a strange gutteral sound at idle) and the passenger-side mirror broke off when his mom TOUCHED it (she didn't even put any weight on it apparently). After he left my place, I took the sea-doo out and came back to find out that he was back in my driveway with the front passenger door in pieces... turns out that the motor for the passenger-side power window failed, followed in rapid succession by the mechanical failure of the linkage from the motor to the window, causing the window to plummet into the door. We tried to temporarily rig it closed, but VW in their infinite wisdom makes their doors completely closed in with sheet metal so you can't even access the window! Needless to say, he ended up having to make the 3+ hour trip with the passenger-side window wide open
It makes me wonder why in the hell he's now looking at buying a VW... I hope after that comedy of errors, he'll reconsider.

lol german engineering at its finest, 2 stories of plummeting passenger side windows.

What is it with VW that their windows keep falling out??? I mean, thats what they are known for. And I've known many people with similiar stories... WTF is that??
i have no idea, luckily my bud has roll up windows, lol. maybe it's just the power ones.

just because it has more torque doesn't make it faster, the VW's always weigh more. They need the torque to pull their fat asses around. The new GTI *without* nav, and other options weighs 431lbs more than the si. holy fat batman. That also kills their handling abilities.

I'm sorry but the GTI is far from competeing with the Si on a track. The GTI/SI is a drivers race on the straight 1/4, but on a raceway the SI dominates. The SI smoked the GTI by 115ft - 8 car lengths in a mile and a half of twisties. VW dropped the ball on the new GTI.

Hahahaha!!!! Brilliant! :rotfl:

I have respect for anyone astute enough to recognize that the ability of a car is not simply measured in a straight line. :hail:
That's the SI's bread and butter, the raceway and autocross....hence the engineering that went into the handling aspect of the car. If i wanted a straight line car i would have bought a mustang. Sorry but straight line is boring to me, i'll go just to see what i can do but i have mid-ohio raceway 30min. from my house........can't wait to tear it up!:driving: :driving: :driving:

I call my driving "spirited" im completely in control of the vehicle at all times and never do it with my fiance or friends in the car. I love going for early sunday morning drives on the back roads in ohio (besides all the bugs). Hitting the twisties is so much fun especially when you have upshift and downshift in them.

BTW- my driving idol is steve mcqueen ( the movie Bullitt ), so i like to double clutch occasionally.:driving:
