well,the main reason I suggest not just putting a breather filter on there is that you retain more of the bad gunk and sludge than you would if you left the intake tract stock.Adding power is just a side benifit to engine health and longevity.

I had a catch can on mine for a while and maybe 2 drops of oil came out. I would leave it hooked up to the intake.

The magazine article was talking about how running a catch can on the PCV will give you power, not valve cover breather.

Thats what the dyno said in the mag article. Might have to do with less oil/sludge getting into the IM. I know I'm skepticle too, but seeing all the crap my cheap DIY catch can has caught, I'm glad I have it.
Catch method will still connect the engine to the intake, unlike the breather method.. Have you seen the one where they use marbles in the catch can DIY?
