hahaha, bro, yah that's wut exactly I was talking about. I could do it upshifting from 1st to 5th w/o using the clutch. But i didn't try doing any "clutchless" downshifting, but it's basically the same concept... Rev the rpm into the "sweet spot" so that the gears can slip right in without any grinding. =D And even if u hear a bit of grinding, just let the car back into neutral... It won't hurt ur car, but once u do that it's harder to get the rpm to match again =/ (but it's all good becuz u can still use the clutch if all else fails).

yeah I don't really see when it would be useful though. MAYBE while just "cruising", or driving slowly, but there's no way this would be helpful while driving competitively (racing).
Well, of course it's just for crusing, eg. on the highway or smthing, or if there's a traffic jam. But it's just cool! Not everyone can do it, and it sorta makes it an auto =D It's something to show off to buddies becuz it is a little difficult at first... =) Just something I wanted to learn... after sorta grasped heel/toe
lol that was quite the topic of conversation when travis brought that up, like 3 of us had the WTFLOL look when he said that.

Yah, u guys were all doubting me =p That's powershifting... I don't know wut u guys usually consider "power shifting"? Just shifting really fast?? In that case, I would call it sqeeling tires and burning clutch, LMAO!! Btw, truck drivers do power shifts all the time, becuz it just smoothly engages, but the thing is we have to find out where our "shift" points are, and I've yet to read the Manual, rofl!!

the 3 ppl were: Mqsr, Megahurts, and Smatts hehehe =D

shifting really fast doesn't cause that. :/

I shift uber fast whenever I redline or just rev past 5k. just go watch DK race, you'll see.
I think my friend told me powershifting is when you dont take your foot off the gas when shifting, that sounds like it would be bad lol.

Oh but that's still using clutch! Basically, ur shifting the gear and inbetween u don't let off the gas so the engine is free revving. And when u engage the clutch again, it'll ride/burn the clutch a bit, but it supposedly gives you a faster run.

I've done that before and the result is chirping your tires and hitting redline earlier. I was crusing w/ a couple friends yesterday night and I basically chirpped my tires from 1st thru 3rd (hit 110 in 90 area, so not excessive speeding)... I don't really know how/why my tires keep chirpping becuz i was just shifting at redline... I think most people disengage clutch, let off gas, then shift and finally engage clutch. Well, in my case, the tach only fell by a little bit b4 i completed my shift so I didn't let it go out of vtec =0

So i went home and tried to analyze the "physics" behind my chirping tires... Maybe becuz I let off the clutch fast so the sudden change in "inerta/speed" forced the tires to "suddenly" slow down and then speed up again. Thus producing the "chirping" sounds?....

Heel/toe (check)
clutchless shift (check)
up/down shifting (check)
power shifting (w/o letting off the gas - check)
hmmm, gotta go find something new to learn and pratice on the car. Imho, getting heel/toe "perfectly" is very very difficult becuz it's a bunch of motions all together, and you have to make it smooth

"Power shifting"
At the same time, quickly shift to the next gear. Quickly re-engage ("pop") the clutch as soon as the new gear is selected. If done properly, the car will receive a "bump" in acceleration (due to the jerk of the decelerating engine) as the clutch is re-engaged.

Yah, that's an almost exact description of the feeling/sound when completing a power shift, but I don't keep the gas pedal in all the way... just press it a bit =/ Yah, I see why my tires chirp now, becuz i'm going toward redline and my car is accelerating, right? Then when I shift it to the next gear, the rpm drops just a bit but still in vtech. However, this creates a scenario where the car "very quickly... maybe a few milliseconds" engine breaks, so my car jerks and then I hear the CHIRP. Since right after the car slows down a bit, I keep the gas going so it accelerates again.

So basically, when u shift really fast or let the clutch disengage & re-engage really quickly there will be a short deceleration followed by great acceleration which forces the tires to "slip" or "chirp" on the road... I finally figured out why my tires chirp!!! =) No more power shifting from me, i guess.... i always thought it was normal, esp if you want to shift fast and get a quick 0-100km time?

just shift really really fast.

Yah, or just do that and u'll get chirpping sounds, even tho it's inadvertant from my perspective becuz ur just redlining ur car and not necessarily breaking any speed limits... But some po po may still give u a tix for "aggressive/reckless" driving just because you redline your car. Pretty **** imo because why else would we have a 8000 redline car??? Po po nvr seems to pull over motorbikes and they go Crazzzzy fast! 0-100 in less than 3 secs, talk about Reckless! :xyxnervou

That's why after i get a Comptech Icebox and some UR pulleys I may need some sticker Toyo or Yokohama streets dubs. Like Dennis said, I want to go to a few advance driving courses and get some better tires and handling (sway/strut mods). Our cars esp the Si'z are plenty fast stock, so there isn't too big of a need for turbo, unless ur planning on doing lots of track/auto x.

dude I'd take any cop that gave me a ticket for redlining my car straight to court. I don't see how redlining while not speeding can be considered reckless driving.

And you would still probably lose =( Sad to say it bro, but i've taken cops to court and believe it or out, Judges do favor them over you (bias), even though bias/favoring shouldn't exist in the Criminal justice system... Sadly, redlining may be thought of as "initiating" a street race or just recklessness even tho I'm just enjoying my car. :police:

no wayyyyyyyy. what about on a highway on-ramp? how could you initiate a street race like that? I would never pay a ticket for redlining.
When you say 'redlining', thats a euphemism for accelerating quickly then? Cause you can redline it and still be going slowly, just that you're using the full rev range ;-)
BTW, when you got the chirping was the tarmac consistent? If it was bumpy at all, it could have caused the tires to lose some contact with the road, free wheel tiny bit and then chirp when contact was made again.
that video was funny lastnight, I was too tired to reply to the thread

Please stay the hell away from me when you are learning to drive your car.

I'm pretty sure we all know how to drive our cars. :D
