My transmission has been leaking from the bottom. It’s a really small one. So I’m choosing between putting something in it to stop the leak, replace the seal that’s warn out, or completely rebuilt the transmission including the seal. Any suggestions?

It could be as simple as an axle seal, check that before adding additives that can possibly ruin your transmission.

Ok, when I get my power steering pump replaced. I’ll be back with an update about if it’s the axel or not

Small update. Whenever I check the transmission fluid level. It’s always at the same spot, so that just gives me doubt it’s the transmission leaking.

Level looks way too high. On cold the level should be right in the middle of the hashmarks and hot should be right at the top of the mark.

My car was at an incline, I totally forgot that’s not how it’s checked. After checking it the right way. It was actually below the mark, I topped it off before going to work and will check again tomorrow

Update, it’s been a week. After I topped off my transmission. The fluid level has been the same.

made there any common transmission leaks from the top that leaks to the bottom. Cuz I really don’t wanna spend $1000+ for a transmission

Can you post a photo of the leak? Then, we might be able to tell you where it's coming from.

I’ll upload two pictures it’s the left side, I’ll circle it. Right in the middle where the bolts are. I had my power steering replaced so here’s directly under my car.

Hmmm I only see one little drip. It could be coming from the case seems or (hopefully) wicking down from the axle seal.

Yeah, that’s the only spot that’s wet. I should have taken more pictures. But the sides look dry to me and nothing wrong around the axel

Hi there. I have 2008 civic. It was parked in the garage for the whole winter, and actually more than winter, since last August. After jump starting the car today, i noticed something is leaking on the drive way. got a mechanic friend who went underneath the car - and said its Transmission leak. He said the pipe (or the connection? dont recall) has lot of corrosion and its leaking from there. He mentioned its pretty expensive to get it repaired. Did the transmission issue you were having also had a huge repair bill?

I have to get my transmission rebuilt. Since it’s a small leak, I’ll just wait. It would cost up to $3k or around $1k to replace it with a low mileage transmission.

Times are hard and I have not touch my transmission other than to put in fluid every few weeks. I found other post of people having the same problem from the same area and one who had it fixed, but didn’t even post how it was fixed. If anyone has information on a similar leak. Please let me know

Final update,
After looking through YouTube and this site. I found the area that was leaking on my transmission is where the shift shaft seal is located. After I got it replaced, I’ve seen no leak for the past month and my transmission is bone dry. Thank god I didn’t need a rebuilt. I’ll post pictures and here is the part number 91209-612-003 & exact size 12x22x7

The pictures is with the cover taken off. Held by 3 maybe 4 bolts.

Minor engine or transmission oil leaks are typically not worth having the whole thing rebuilt if it is not a leak that can be easily fixed. In the long run in those cases it is cheaper and easier to just add a little fluid when needed.

Even if it were losing a quart a week it would take five years or more of buying a weekly quart of fluid to equal the cost of a rebuild. Of course losing a quart a week is an extreme case but it just goes to that even in serious cases it is cheaper to just live with the inconvenience.

I agree, that’s why I flat out just didn’t go through with the rebuilt. I’m happy I found the leak though, posted here so future people can see

Hello I am having the same issue and I wanted to ask when topping it off do you top off then turn on the car or is it recommended for me to go through the gears? Also I am on the bottom harsh line so how much tranny fluid should I put? Thank you
