So this happened Friday... I'm not jumping the gun by saying my car is totalled, right? 2007 Si with 68K miles. NADA books it at about 12K. The @sshole that was at fault didn't have insurance either.

So, if it's totalled, What do you guys think. My budget is 20K. GTI, Si, MS3, or Focus ST? Want a small 4-door sporty car. Good WRX's are higher than 20K, so don't suggest it.

Possibly totaled. That's the risk with big accidents since our engine bays are so compacted. I hope that it's not cause I had to total my first Honda out because the lady had no insurance. Was the only one and only car out of four to drive away and not leave in an ambulance.

If your budget is 20K, then the Fiesta ST is more in your price range, or a used SI or MS3. If you want to risk it, then a used GTI. You should test drive all of these and see if they make you feel the same way as the SI.

I work at a dealership and I've seen some beautiful used cars come through. I've considered trading mine in several times. I'd test drive them and decide to sleep on it. As soon as I'd leave to drive home, I'd be reminded about how much I love my FA5. Choose wisely is all I can say. I've seen people buy used cars and trade them in within a month because they weren't in love with it.

Thats how I feel with the Vdubs (other than the crew that comes with getting into Euros). I feel they are too hit or miss with reliability. My ol' man has 2012 Golf R, and there's problems with the cam followers already with the head/crankcase vent blowing oily mixtures back in and clogging the follower. One solution is to convert it to a rocker or using a catch can. I would say go with a Honda, because I'm a fanboy of course. But, the new Focus seems to be the new hottest hatch.

Airbags are blown per the pic. 99% chance totaled. Focus ST is getting rave reviews from those I know. The VW's are 50/50 as mentioned above. If you have plenty of aftermarket parts might be worth saving a bit and getting the fa5.

I drove my friends focus ST, its amazing IMHO. Its like playing a video game while driving. Makes all sorts of great noises (he deleted the fake "sound" that gets pumped into the cabin because his is modded, and he said it was too much), but it was awesome. Great midrange power.

That being said - if you want BRAND new, go for the Fiesta ST if you can get it in your price range. I have not driven one, but I can guarantee the car feels quick, its just a tick slower than the Focus ST in the quarter mile, but it gets better mpgs - and once modded, its so light, it has to be quick.

If you had a bigger budget, I'd say GTI no doubt. But you only want the new model of that.

If I were to go buy a 2nd car right now, I'd honestly get the Fiesta ST.

Normally, your insurance can give you two options when you total your car. Keep it for $x amount with a salvaged title, or $x for you to sign it over. That's when you'd bring it to a body shop without your insurance company being involved. Atleast that way you could keep it w/o blown airbags.

Right. I think all I see is the steering wheel airbag deployed, which isn't that bad. Typically from what I've seen, a car can still not be damaged that badly, but insurance will total it so they won't have a headache to deal with. If I wanted to keep it, I wouldn't go with a salvage title. I'd buy it back and sign it over. If it's just the steering wheel airbag, it wouldn't be that bad aside from cosmetic stuff (assuming there's no serious structural damage beside the crash bar and radiator support etc). If the side curtain or any other airbag besides the driver steering wheel deployed, I'd get a new car. It's a lot of money for a new airbag system. Not worth it imo.

Just the steering wheel airbag went off, I was the only one in the car so the passenger never went off, and it was a fully frontal hit so the side airbags didn't either.

I can't tell if its more than just the radiator and bumper damage. The bumper, hood, and both side fenders will need replacement, along with the steering wheel, seat belts, all of the radiator/front end equipment, etc. Even if it's not totaled, i'm selling the car the minute it comes out of the shop (at a discount unfortunately). I don't want a car that's been in this type of a wreck.

I'm hoping they do what most insurance companies do and give me a check because it's not worth the effort to fix (even if the bill comes under 12K).

I love the Focus ST, but most are right around 21-22K. I can afford that, but it's on the high end of what i want to spend, plus most within a 300 mile radius are Grey. . . bleh.

I might know tomorrow when the adjuster comes out to take a look. Never been in a wreck before, so this is all new to me.

I know this car was not on your list but just want to mention the genesis coupe. You should give it a look just for kicks. It's around the price you are willing to spend. They are up and coming IMHO. I went from an fa5 to the 2012 gencoupe and tuned it and it is a ton of fun. It is a coupe tho if you must have 4drs, then maybe not. Just an opinion!
