Top Hat orientation on struts

I wasn't aware of the orientation being important with respect to the tophats when installing the front struts. I read somewhere here that to make sure the arrows are pointing in towards each other, but I also read elsewhere that due to the bolt spacing on the tophat there is only one way for it to go. I had to rework my driver side Koni shock install and made sure that the arrow was pointing in the right direction when I put it back in. I am wondering if its necessary to recheck the passenger side if in fact its true that there is only one way for it to go as long as you have it on the correct side of the vehicle.. so basically I can't have gotten it wrong.

True or False ?

I have progress lowering springs on my fa5 I installed over the weekend. Was my first set of lowering springs always go the coilover route but I have the same clunking noise on my front driver side. I took it out at work the top mount was pointing in the right direction towards the front of the car even took the spring back out and made sure it was in the right spot reinstalled and still the samething. It's driving me crazy I would like to figure it out I don't wanna drop 1000 dollars for some coilovers since the lowering springs were given to me but I think I might have to. I refuse to reinstall the factory springs with the possibility that I can still have the same issue with them as well. Thanks in advance to any feedback that I get

Doing my Nuespeed sports and konis tonight. I noticed there is not different part numbers for the tophats for the Honda OEM parts or the moogs I picked up. So they can't be tilted to the side right? I looked at them and didn't notice any tilt. Maybe front to back there's a tilt. Otherwise why would there be an arrow?

I installed Neuspeed race springs with Koni yellows in the rear and on oem struts in the front while I wait for my Koni oranges to arrive. I have this noise on the driver's side only. I had this noise with Tein S Techs so I removed them and put all oem back on and it went away.

I came across this thread afterward and made absolutely sure the arrow was pointing toward the front of the car when I installed the Neuspeeds. The passenger side makes no sound and the driver's side makes a ton. I pulled that strut off to double check and it was pointing forward.

Just to confirm, on these top hats there is an arrow cut into the top hat from factory and that is the arrow I'm referring to. There are green and yellow marks on the top hat too. I guess I have no choice but to pull it off and orient it a different way and see what happens. This is driving me crazy!!!

hey fellas. I know this thread is old, and I know how to use the search function, but I have been reading up this threadto find out what is wrong with my car. I just want to verify that the sounds you guys were hearing was a squeaking sound such like this :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMyxVuBPskE

or a rattling sound (bucket of bolts) like this video below indicate.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BcRDEUjntbQ

And both are pointing to the top head of the strut. i drive an 07 SI sedan with 105k mileage on it and the squeaking noise that i get is from the front passenger. Any input will help me know what to buy or check out.

Thanks.

edit: to note, its not the brakes as I changed it in February and it only happens when I drive. Very similar to the first video except not as loud.

Cool thanks for the info. Strange enough, the sound is gone. But I'm suspecting it's the dust boot. Cause after I tighten it as much as I can (it's all torn up), the noise stop. So I'm not sure.

I'm eventually going to change the shock for koni orange and strut by redshift, dust boot and top hat from college Hill Honda. Let's hope it fixed the issue.

Again, thanks for your help.

Now I'm worried... I don't remember which way I oriented my top hats when I installed them, I recall deciding on one of the three choices but if I chose forward is past my memory.

I have HFP suspension, I took a peek and saw a green dot pointing inward (toward the motor). Is this the correct orientation? In other words, for the HFP suspension where is that green dot in relation to the arrow? Pictures would be fantastic if possible..

From what I have been reading in this thread and YouTube, the arrow on the top hat should be pointing towards the front of the vehicle. So if you're sitting in your car looking straight at the road, it should be pointing in the direction you're looking at. In a more clarifying point of view, it should be pointing at your headlight.

As to your question, I believe there is a picture of a stock top head, probably in the the first two or three pages that shows the arrow and the dots you are talking about. I'm buzzing right now so I'll be going to sleep. I hope the other will chime in and help you out some more.

Also, there should be videos on YouTube that have a clearer view of what you're looking for. You may have to look through a few before finding it.

Sorry for bumping such a old thread.

I installed the koni pro kit about two years ago and for the top hats, I picked up what ever set napa auto had. Since install, my symptoms are a creeking noise when I turn the wheel to either side at a complete stop.

I do not recall the napa top hats having any orientation marks, can someone remark if all after market parts should have them? Or is the napa top generic and they may not be the perfect fit for the Si?

Thanks in advance in anyone who can shine some light on this. Im glad i came across this thread as i just accepted that noise as normal.
