over here in my part of asia, many workshop believe that valve train and camshaft must be purchase as a set and from the same company.

So let say Go-power valve train and go-power cam combo and when using Toda C camshaft must use Toda valve spring.

So for example, can Toda C camshaft use Go-Power Valvetrain???
You're correct.
The cam does not reflect on the valvetrain needed to be purchased, as long as you do upgrade your valvetrain. You can run company A cams with company B valvetrain as long as the lift of the cam does not exceed the max life rated on the springs.

Ok, just to confirm. I bought some IPS k2 cams and was wondering if a spring&retainer kit from skunk2 would work.

If I look at IPS specs: >>> I N T R I N S I C   P E R F O R M A N C E   S O L U T I O N S,   I N C. <<< their highest spring height is: high speed lobe: 302 (13.28mm) which is 0.52". Based on your find, the max lift of the skunk2 spring is: 0.660. So the height of the spring is higher than the cam, so everything should be good. Can you confirm that, just to have my head clean ? Is there anything I should be looking...

thanks

H1021D is 120 lbs @ 1.590 even though it says 95 on the package. Its important to realize most of these heads are really at 1.620-1.630 so the advertized spring rate only applies if it is shimmed and setup to reflect that. Most people just put in the spring bases that are supplied and don't check installed height.

Ferrea is 95 @ 1.590
4 Piston Endurance 105 installed max lift .600
4 Piston IRL 115 installed max lift .600
4 Piston Pro Stock Single 130 installed max lift .670

I tested Skunk Pro recently when I installed them in a customer head and they were around 100?? I'm going off memory.

This is all on my pressure tester, and I check it with calibration springs so its pretty close.

skunk2 has "upgraded" and "pro"

Do you know the difference in pressure for those?

i've done the oem combo on stage 2 cams but never rev'd past 8200..really wish i would have stuck with z3 seat for more tension tho on bc2011 retainers

i was going to ask you about this oem combo: rsxs inner red, with k20z3 outers, then middle spring resting on z3 seat for more tension with dual aftermarket retainers, anyone tried???

i asked skunk 2 staff if i could use z3 seats and this is what was said.:

me:i had bought a set of your stage 2 camshafts for 07civic si k20z3 and wanted to know if i can use the oem seats and just upgrade the rest of the valvetrain????

skunk2 rep:yes you will need to upgrade your valvesprings and retainers, everything else is factory.

Thank you for contacting Skunk2 Racing, if you have any more questions regarding Skunk2 products or policy please let us know.

i know we shouldn't listen to just one person but i agree with skunk2's recommendations plus z3 seat might boost tension on any inner valve spring...i'm gonna use it...

The stiffer spring rate is a double edge sword. It makes sure the valve closes however if it is too stiff it will create a loss of HP on the top end. You only need enough spring pressure to control the valve, if the pressure is too low it will have “valve float”. If too stiff you will lose power as it takes more to turn the motor to overcome the pressure.

The main function of the spring is to control the motion of the valve caused by the cam. Some cams are very gentile with open and close rates which can take lighter spring pressure, while more aggressive cams will require heavier spring rates.

The trick is to find the proper rate to control the valves while at the same time not going too light to induce valve float.

Valve float is when the rocker loses contact with the cam at high rpm due to the spring rate not controlling the motion very well. This can be seen on the dyno as a flutter and loss of power.

The main reason for high rate springs is when you have forced induction with high boost levels. If you have a spring rate of 95lbs on the seat and you are running a turbo with 30lbs of boost you effectively have 65lbs on the seat, so you will often see turbo cars run very high spring pressures 125+ on the seat to combat this.
