I have been looking at these forums for a couple weeks now and since I'm getting a new 08 civic si. I would like to do some f/i. This would be my first F/I car so I'd like to get some input about what is the most reliable one. I would like to learn about these from experience. I'm not looking for a lot of extra power but I would like to start off with something reliabe.

I have read that the Greddy kit has some problems with stalling.
Does the AJP kit have and problems going with less boost?
And also will the Comptech S/C wear out the engine a lot faster than a t/c?

What in your opinion is the most reliable out there? I'm looking for something that won't bring me much trouble.

Thanks in advance

It really depends how you drive and maintain your ride for reliable between S/C or F/I. To determine what kit you want

  1. How much money are you willing to spend?
  2. How much WHP are you wanting to achieve?

Those are the big questions and can find the answers on the forums by searching.

The Greddy kit is good for 250-280 before upgrades are needed.

The S/C are dependent on what kit and limited on upgrades to produce more power in the long run.

AJP.. You take your chances but seems to make the power.

There are other kits that are just hitting the market or will be hitting the market by April I would think.

If you don't mind my humble opion!! Wait until the summer to make your decision with the newer kits and tuning opions that should hit the market..:thumb:

I'll probably wait but I really just want to know what's the most reliable kit. I'm not looking for a lot of power but my reading shows that AJP is the most reliable kit so far and has a bit more power than I am looking for but I guess I can deal with that.

Money isn't really an issue so that's why I am looking for reliability.

Again this is a daily driver so I'm looking for something with just a little added power because I want to learn about F/I from first hand experience with it.

If you want the most reliablility, and decent Power without putting to much strain on the engine then you need to go with Comptech S/C.

S/C's actually are less strain on the motor because the boost is linear as the engine RPMs increase. With I/H/E you can expect 256-260 Wheel HP and with stage 2 coming soon 280-290 WHP is achievable.

Really? I read that people had no problems with the t/c at all. So what's the most reliable?

The only people I can recall who don't have too many problems with AJP are the ones who are local to their shop.

Checkout Highrev1 or RedshiftChris. They're in the middle of making a turbo and supercharged system for those who want either.

Reliability for those out now, I'd probably go to Comptech.

Yea I remember reading that thread. I completely forgot about it.

I am really looking at Comptech. But I'm wondering will the S/C wear down the engine's lifespan and by how much, like cut it in half?

Hit up TeamValorRacing. He is selling his Comptech S/C but, AFAIK, it's mostly checking the belts and changing oil in normal intervals (3000 miles instead of the Honda recommended 5000-6500).

As 07CivicMD said though, how much WHP are you looking for? That would point you where you'd want to go, and take steps from there. Blue Rocket (a sponsor on this site) is getting his engine redone by Redshift after his AJP kit -- so you may want to check his thread out.

I'm not a site sponsor, but yes, RedShift is working on my car.

I'm really only looking for an additional 40-80 hp because i'm still going to use this as an every day driver. I just want to start out using a small amount of boost.

Well. that's where you have to watch what you say.. "I just want to start out using a small amount of boost. can cost you lots of money later to upgrade certain kits. Make the determination of how much boost you will be happy with.. that should always be your first thought.. how much power and how much money. Just a tip..

Look at me.. I spent lots of money on the Greddy kit and after 3 months.. BAM!! A Complete engine rebuild and wanting 350-400 for a DD and 500+ for the track.. Boost is addicting!!

Well I just want to start with a small amount of boost for this car. I just want to use this car to learn off of so I can buy a faster car to boost more where I'll have some experience and have a smaller chance at ruining the engine.

so You have the Greddy kit? Have you had any problems with it? Do you use your car for daily driving or not?
I had the Greddy kit and loved it. I didn't have any problems other than idling sometimes.. but that just took time to remap fuel cells in the map to get a better fuel/air ratio. Most tuners will tune the car to run "rich" and not on the bleed edge for Fuel/Air ratios. It takes some understanding but not hard to figure out the fuel map and make adjustments to lean out certain RPM while in idle and under load. The biggest issue with the Greddy kit is the E-Management, since It's a piggyback an is consistly fighting with the stock ECU to run fuel. I would be patient for the next couple of months since you have the money and wait to see some of the results from other kits and a few more S/C & F/I kits that should hit the next few months.

Hope this helped!

yea it helped a lot, thanks. I will definitely wait. I still have a month to wait till my car comes, if it even comes when they said it would. I just keep looking at the boost and the more and more I look the more and more I want to get it.
