I'm not in the crew, I've got Brembos, but I do have a question about the Spoon calipers.

How do they compare to something like the stock Brembos?

I've helped a few people order them through Yahoo Auctions Japan and even Spoon directly, and they are pretty spendy. When you can get a set of used Brembos for about $500-600, it seems paying $1000 for the Spoon's is a little odd unless they are MUCH better. If they are, I might consider upgrading.
Well... you just said USED Brembos are $500 - $600... BRAND NEW Spoon Calipers are just $1,000... How much is it for BRAND NEW Brembos?
I think the last time I checked, you couldn't buy brembo calipers by themselves, they MAKE you buy the WHOLE big brake kit for $2,600+

^When you think about it there is no HUGE price difference :-D

are the pads used the same as stock also?
Are you asking if we're using the stock pads?
I'm using HFP Pads for now.
Or are you asking if you could still use the stock size pads with the calipers?
Yes, you could still use the same size/spec pads.

They should be smaller than the type r brembos, if your comparing the Spoon Calipers that we have. The Spoon calipers we're using were designed for the DC2 or S2K.
I think the type Rs (FD2) in Japan wouldn't use the same calipers we got. They'd be using the NEW Spoon BBK (355 Brake Kit) which are a hell of alot more expensive.

I'm not knocking the Spoon calipers, they look great, I'm just trying to figure out if they are comparable to the performance of Brembo brakes.

Also, yes, the kits are $2600 depending where you look, but they also normally include calipers, 2 piece floating big slotted/dimpled rotors, stainless brake lines, and sometimes pads.

So add all that to the $1000-$1200 you are spending on the Spoon calipers, and you won't be coming out as cheap as you expected.

Also, you can buy Brembo calipers, go to any dealer who sells a car with OE Brembo brakes, and say you want to order them. I don't know how much they cost, and you'll need custom brackets to fit them, but it's not that bad.

Edit:

All I'm saying is for the "JDM Bling" factor on a Honda, it's hard to beat Spoon, but I think a more cost effective way to achieve the best braking would be to get a set of used Brembos and piece together the rest.

well if we buy the used brembo we need to do a lot of work...

if we buy spoon calipers, its direct bolt on, designed to work with the stock brake set up, uses stock size pads and it performs at least the same as brembo.

the old spoon caliper (DC2 & S2K) made by nissin.
the new spoon caliper for FD2 is made by brembo.

ping..your car is godly..ever tracked it?
Good question, it would be a huge waste to spend the money on these upgrades and not drive the hell out of it. :thumb:

edit:

Ping, do you have a build thread for your car? I'd like to check it out, because I thought the CSX's was only for the Canadian market, and not US legal, but your location says California.
