Skunk 2 Cams

I've got a set of Skunk 2 cams, probably a stage 1, I bought them off of someone, and I was planning on installing them this weekend. Just wanted to know if anyone has any thoughts on them. How is the performance. Is there anything to watch out for on the install. Anything. My SI is stock. Just wanted to hear what you have to say. Thanks.

i dont think it will help at all no a stock engine. You really need to have a free er flowing exhaust and intake and the reflash before you put the cams in. Also, new springs and retainer would be good.
I agree, cams are an odd place to start modding. You should probably figure out which ones you have first before you put them in, too. Anything above a stage 1 I'd be weary of piston to valve clearances. You don't wanna go bending all your valves and damaging your pistons now, do you?

Plus, without tuning, even say you had a race header, exhaust, and the reflash, you'd probably only pick up about ~10whp from the cams. At least that's what past dyno tests have shown.
cams wont be used to da fullest without a tuning solution sooo if i was u i would wait it out and do other mods for now. well u can always do a i/h/e then put in the cams
just do it and replace the valve springs and retainers while you're in there...
i mean i/h/e reflash would do ok with cams...but a real tune would benfit you the best...
I say go for it.... !!! im dont think you have to do springs with that small of a cam... there are some other problems you will need to think about... is the rev limiter raised? with the BC stage 2 cams my car makes power way past the stock redline
bottom line... it's a step forward for you and your vehicle, not a step backwards.
Thanks for the input. I bought them off someone, in January, who was going to put them in their SI race car but decided not to. The have a few hours of dyno time. I don't expect a whole lot of change. But I fugure I paid for them, and they have been sitting in my closet for the last 9 months I probably should put them in.

I'm pretty sure they are a stage 1. He was going to put put the cams in to cheat in his race class but they sounded too different. I assume they were a low stage because he didn't want to draw too much attention. Is there a way I can tell?

So I should get anything negative from just installing the cams, should I?
