The windshield on my car is very pitted and difficult to see out of in direct sunlight. I know it doesn't sound like a big deal, but it's actually pretty serious, I can't see cars through it because it's so bad (I think the previous owner drove too close to people)

Anyway, my insurance told me that they'll replace it at no cost. What I'm wondering, is, if I replace the original windshield does this affect the crash-ability of the car? I had the windshield replaced on my old Mustang and hit a pole head-on at 45mph and the windshield didn't pop out at all (and I was unharmed).

Just wondering if you guys have any input in regards to this issue.

You should look to see if yours is the Honda original. They all get marked up (and sooner or later a crack requiring replacement) There is a good possibility they will want to put in a 3rd party windshield, and some of those can pit pretty quickly.

If you get it replaced, make sure its a good quality replacement. The insurance will pay the glass company for an OEM Honda windshield, and they'll install an off brand windshield that's adequate to get a little more money out of the deal.

Yeah I remember on my old car's windshield (the original OEM one) the previous owner had tinted the top portion of the windshield.

So, when the guy came to replace my windshield he was like "we can put the OEM one on, without the tint strip... or we can put an aftermarket one on, that has the tint strip"

Like an IDIOT I got the aftermarket windshield, and within the first month, there was like this scrape that looked like wax or something mysteriously appeared and I could NOT get rid of it LOL

I know when my back window got busted out by a guys pop up canopy thing at a car show I had safelite do mine(insurance preferred). 3 back windows later and apparently 2 different brands the top of it has warped once again. It doesn't leak or anything but I can see it when the light hits it right I just wonder how long it will take to maybe leak or worse crack. When I called they said that they wouldn't cover an OEM window ordered from Honda because it cost more than replacements than Safelite carried. Sum of it is replacement windows suck but the windshield isn't curved like the back window so good luck and make sure they replace it with the good stuff the first time!

^^ That sucks to hear. I've always been under the assumption that as customer, you have the right to request OEM parts, but it just might be the insurance company.

As for the OP, I wouldn't. I've read a few glass replacement threads before and all of them have been replaced with aftermarket glass. All of them complain of the glass's sub par clarity and quality. I think if you search there would be more information to go off of. There is a specific name for the type of glass they use, but I can't for the life of me remember anything more than what I've just typed out. I wish I could be of more help.
