Ok Over theweekend I was touching up some rock chip and I messed up the clearcoat so someone told me to use scratch x to get the clearcoat off. I didn't work so the guy at the store told me to use turttle rubbing compound which worked great, but now the clear coat is dull. What do I use next, polishing compound, then a wax. I tried scratch x and it didn't work.
Please any help would be greatful.

^yes, use a polishing compound next followed with a wax. you should just use turtle waxes polishing compound and then wax. if you don't have the time and elbow greese and tiring speed to do this, get a buffer and do it at high speed. polishing a paint job with a buffer is sometimes better. polishing makes paint brand new again.

i think i was the one the suggested ScratchX to remove your botched clear
app. you probably did not put in enough elbow grease when you used scratchx or used a soft foam applicator.

compounds are aggressive polishes so you need to go over it with a fine
polish like ScratchX a few times to get the shiny back.

i would've suggested going to a stiffer pad and even a slightly more
abrasive polish than scratchX than to just go straight to compounds.

you can easily burn through the clear if you put too much force.
(quite irresponsible for the shop to suggest it from a detailer's point of
view).
