So I general drive with my radar detector on. However, for the most part it has never SMA before because I'm either not going fast enough for it to make a difference, or I see the cop way before hand.

That all changed tonight. Finally the radar detector paid for itself. I'm driving 65 (ok maybe a little more then that :lildevil on a 45 road. All of a sudden the detector starts firing, and I immediately get on the breaks. Just as I get the car down to 50 mph I see the front end of a cop car sitting right at the entrance of a residential street. There would have been no way of seeing him/her before it'd be to late. Man I love my detector arty:

BTW 20 mph over in my state is reckless, which equals a minim $1500 fine just for the ticket because of new penalties recently enacted in my state. Traffic ticket can reach as high as $3000 in my state now. I think they have to be the harshest traffic penalties in the US by far.

What are your radar detector stories? Either good or bad.

I have a lot of simaler experiences. If they are running active Radar Then I can see them for miles. But if they instant on, I can only tell if they have gunned someone before Me.

but i realy think the detectors make cars look like sh*t and kinda cheap with the damn wires everywhere.
Thats why I cant get myself to by one yet!

Ive got a passport 8500, i hardwired it and its in the corner of the windshield with just very little wire exposed, looks good and saved my ass more times then i can count.

You know I feel the same way, So I hardwired it all in... I like having my 12V outlet free and I hate wires.

my RD is at eye level, so when I get an Audible alert I can also see the visual without having to look away. It's nice, I have it wired in to the circuit for the lights. I did the same thing for my navigation unit as you can see.

whoa I didn't know there was a DIY, damn... I just went up there with a multimeter and spliced it into a circuit, then grounded it to a bolt.

I run a Passport 8500 x50 just sold my old car and let the old Passport 8500 and the zr3 laser shifter go with it.

The passport laser shifting WORKS! Save me at least 5 times. But the naysayers will come out an argue with me on it. So if you don't believe talk to some traffic cops, like I did. It works! also you can youtube the videos.

The radar save my asses allots of time. But I did get a ticket from a hill-billy-******* in New Mexico. It was more a race profile. Because there was another hill-billy-******* trucker that was faster than me.

I have a stealth radar detector. So they can't detect that I have one. Not even sure if they can otherwise but that’s what I was told. IMO the no radar detector law is a pure BS. We are the only state that has that law, and we have the harshest tickets in the US.

I have the escort 2 wireless or something like that. Looks clean, and just replace the batteries offend to keep it fully charged and your good to go. Plus, in my state I obviously need one I can quickly stash.
