Hello,

can you write a bit more about this upgrade? Can you share the links to the parts you ordered? What dyno shows...?

I have too FD1 model with the same engine, so far I did some NA upgrades, probably same Skunk2 crankshaft as you have, NST pulleys, WeaponR intake manifold, NGK Iridium sparks, custom 2.5" exhaust sys with Magnaflow 200cel cat... DYNOmite showed 156hp 177Nm...

I'll go ahead with upgrades, thinking of going into FI, but saw your post after a while of searching and got interested to where NA upgrades and gains can go with this engine. I'm not focusing on race setup at all.

Thank you!

Hey Kevin, nice!

Can you please provide me some more infos on my questions?

Is R20 crankshaft "drop in" or any extra work need to be done? What is the difference vs stock? Which piston did you put in?
Did you put it on dyno yet?

All infos are welcome please.

Hi
You can do it There are some small fixes But it is something that is easy to do.
Crank : R20
Rods : R20
Pistons : R18

If you have a piston and rod for high compression ratio
It will be even better.

You're welcome

Hi, thank you for your feedback! Here in EU we're quite limited with upgrades so R18 is basically the only engine for FD model to be "worth" upgrading. Also I'm sceptical to go into FI (on forums everybody will push turbo as the "only" option...), which may be perfectly legal in USA or somewhere else, but not here in EU. Bolt-ons ans similar "non-visible" upgrades are still something to consider here, even if you get "less bang for a buck".

Did you find any heating issues as you mounted bigger radiator? Also issues with fuel pumping? Did you put better springs/retainers for safe sake or on purpose? Did you find any troubles mounting LSD on this car...? (I see the reason why LSD as even on mine car front wheels slips easy...)

Please forgive me on my questions, I'm not mechanic but I'd like to find a purpose with these parts.

Many people will mount turbo system on this engine, not fail safing many components, which doubts longevity.

I want to "ride" on safe side and take some other costs into equation as this car is much more for street use...

Thank you for your feedback!

Hello!

Your car is cool
If you install a large radiator It will help you with the heat.
I advise you To replace the thermostat, you should use Civic 96 thermostat.
It fits well. And it has a temperature value of 78 degrees C.
It will reduce the heat better than the OEM(82degrees C).

LSD you have to trim in the footer. You will find it stuck.
And you know you have to mill it a little, the speed gear can use the same thing.
I hope it will be helpful for you.
I am happy to advise

thank you

Thanks!

OK I'll keep it in my mind!

Did you changed the injectors too?

I guess that because of R20 components you added you changed valves/springs or am I wrong?

Which 81,5mm piston did you put in? Did you had any extra work to do as it's 0,5mm wider?

PS I've sent you my email in PM

I assume that you are saying to maintain optimal coolant temperature, we need to change our thermostat.

But which low temp thermostat should we buy?

Do you refer to 1996 Honda Civic thermostat?

I'm in for more details...

This mans r18 spanks half of the k20's on this forum. How did I miss this? Really cool build, sub'd.

EDIT: Ok, I understand the build, one part I've never seen though...

Yes. 1996 Honda Civic thermostat 78c.
It can fit with R18.

😅 I'm sorry I didn't take it out.
Wow man you did a great job this build competes with stock FD2R man. I have a question about LSD 6 speed from DC5. Can it fit bolt-ons or the FD2R LSD? You said "LSD you have to trim in the footer You will find it stuck. mill it a little". I didn't quite understand it as i am eager to follow here with my FD1 as well throw out 5 speed and swap R20 too with 6 speed LSD. Thanks

You can use the DC5 LSD and the FD2R, both can be retrofitted to your R18 transmission.
