Im debating on whether to get a short ram air intake or not. The reason is because i've heard that putting one on will set off your check engine light. is this true? i need to know some info before i buy one and and have to worry about lights coming on. This would be my first mod

Really? This kid asks one question (posted yesterday) and 112 people view it. Not one response. I feel bad, and he is asking a simple question. Your trying to tell me 112 people who viewed this don't have an Si or a simple intake installed?

I came here to learn more about civics. Maybe I should just turn around and find somewhere else seeing how helpful everyone is.

It could potentially since there are no air foils in the intake stream like the stock tubing does. However I think this would be more true with cheap intakes and not ones that are from reputable companies such as K&N, AEM, Fujita, Injen, ect. I have an AEM SRI and had it before I had FlashPro no cel here.

I've had the k&n sri on my si for about 3 months now. No CEL ever. Just make sure when you install it everything is tightened down to prevent leaks and disconnect the negative battery terminal to reset the ECU and let it idle for 15 minutes before driving. That way, it will adjust faster to the increased air flow.

On a side note, the only abnormality you might see with an sri is idle fluctuation without a tune. Mine will bounce around from 800rpm to 1100rpm if I shift into neutral and coast while driving. It returns to normal at a stop, though.

As always with an sri, beware of heat soak if you live in a high humidity, hot climate. I personally have not noticed it much as the weather isnt hot yet, but its something to think about.

Agreed. I'm in Northwest FL and haven't felt heatsoak too much yet as a DD. I don't race, so I figure it's not a big deal unless you're looking for the optimal setup for track times haha the K&N handles stop and go traffic just fine for me.
