I have decided to go down the turbo route.
I have a Civic Type-R K20Z4

I thought that it would be best to upgrade internals while I'm at it.

Is it better to drop compression?

What psi could I run on 11:1 forged internals?

And psi on 9.8:1 forged internals?

no one can tell you anything until you list your turbo setup / power goals. stock motor can hold lots of power for an extended amount of time, but you have to let us know what your going to be dealing with here

The stock motor holds up really well for boost. Mostly everyone here who's got a 400+WHP turbo build is on stock internals and are having no problems with them.

:yeahthat:
you could have the extra edge if you fully build the motor. then you could go 700whp instead. thats what im gonna do this year. then i might break 13's. lol
but seriously.. stock internals will hold up to 400whp. past that your taking a chance

Really? Theres plenty of people on stock motors here running over 400WHP... I don't see them blowing their motors.

the motor isn't what everyone needs to be worrying about, our trannys start shredding 2nd and 4th gears after 350-375wtq. unless your going to keep your civic as a track-ish car and your willing to through some straight cut gears in the tranny, i personally don't see the point in building the motor

I agree. The motor handles tons of power in stock form quite well. Getting a dogbox or straight cut gears should be the next thing done before even thinking about building the internals. From what I've seen, 4th gear seems to be the most common gear to go in the K20s.

How I see it...If you plan to catch traction on a stock tranny with tons of tq, you can kiss the tranny goodbye. My suggestion is definitely look into getting a dogbox or straight cut gears then start working on catching traction and going faster.

Thanks for the info.
I am probably going for a full race setup with a GT3076R I dont want more than 450hp but there is a difference in the K20Z4 and your Z3. I believe your motors have forged rods and can take 400hp ours are not forged and apparently need upgraded internals for over 340+hp.

I wish we had forged rods. I'll do some research in a bit and look.
Thanks man. I have since found out that our pistons and rods a very similar so they should be able handle the same power.

I want to ask you since you were super charged before. What do you think is better? Is there a problem with turbo lag and not much low down power?

I have been looking at this rotrex kit and maybe that will be better

I'm running the ct kit at the moment. Nothing wrong with it but I want more power. It is a toss up between a rotrex super charger and going turbo.

i can show you what the stock piston/rod looks like so you can compare if you pull them out? turbo is easily more power then sc. but you need to know what is your power goal, then select a turbo. 400hp @9psi gt30 FR kit. pretty nice if you ask me.

I totally agree with alphi here.. don't worry about intetnals bro a good investment would be some PPG gears cause that's what will be under the most stress. Or a 1.5way LSD to keep that power on the tarmac.

thats no good? not evan 400bhp and the gears broke? i understand that the internals can take strain but looks to me like the gearbox isnt that strong? how much torque can a stock FN2 gearbox (safley) take?
all help is much apreciated!!!

Gearbox break even on stock cars. The FN2 has known issues with 3rd gear. It all depends on how you look after your box.
