AVIC-F700BT Questions

I just installed the aforementioned headunit in my car, updated to firmware 2.0, and so far so good except ...

1. My iPod Touch connects to the unit using the regular Apple USB cable and I can control the music on the iPod. However, I can't hear any sound even though I can see the songs playing. I read online that the Pioneer CD-IU230V is recommended for iPod connectivity, but NOT mandatory. Can someone confirm or deny this?

2. I used to be able to connect the iPod Touch to my factory stereo using the iPod jack. I can't do this using the AVIC-F700BT anymore. Anyone know why?

3. After installing the headunit I lost my steering wheel controls, which I knew would happen. Can anyone tell me if installing the PAC SWI-PS steering wheel controls would resolve this issue? Also, would this be the only device I can install that would give me steering wheel audio control back or is there anything else out there?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ohh, you got the F700BT too! Have you done any modifications to it yet? The thing actually boots into Windows CE!
No modifications other than upgrading the firmware to 2.0.

Hi I just purchased the AVIC-F700BT and i have a question, does it play video? I knew it can't support DVD/DIVX, but can it play video from the SD/USB drive? thanks.
I just confirmed today that you CAN play video with sound from the SD card. The file type was avi and it was about 700MB in size.

I've been using my iPod touch (2nd gen) on the pioneer nav units for months without issues
Yes, but how do you connect, direcly to the USB port using the iPod USB cable or do you have the special cable everyone is saying is needed? Also, have you tried to use the mini jack on the front of the Pioneer to see if you can play songs on the iTouch? Thanks!

One more question, does the navigation says out street names? Thanks.
No, the voice only tells you to turn left or right on streets or freeways, but it doesn't actually tell you the name of the street or highway.

i use the CDIU230V
OK, so that makes me ask one more question ...

Can you play videos as well as music from your iPod to the Pioneer stereo using the CDIU230V? Reason I'm asking is because on the Pioneer site and on Futureshop's site (who is selling this cable for $50.00) it states that the cable will give you audio for music, but it won't give you video compatibility.

I am not sure how some people can play music from the iTouch to the Pioneer stereo w/o this cable, because I can't. I have my AV1 source set to iPod, and I have a jaibroken iTouch using firmware 2.1.

07Ex, I'm ready to buy this unit as it's on sale at Newegg for $400, so does the kit come with all the wiring that's needed to be installed on a 07 Ex non-nav? If not, what else should I buy besides the dash kit? I think it's a great price since its upgraded version (900BT) cost almost twice as much and the only improvement is DVD playback ability.

I found a good deal on this and was wondering how hard the installation was.

Is it like this thread? That looks VERY hard, especially with all the soldering and cutting. Is that necessary to install the new F700BT?

I will be doing the parking brake bypass, is it the same procedure for the F700BT? (This looks pretty easy where you just need to move the yellow wire).

Also, I wanted to try to retain the steering wheel controls with the PAC unit. Is cutting/ soldering required for that? (I am not very comfortable with that. I do have very steady hands, but I am afraid I will burn something or just mess it up)

Is it better to get it installed somewhere else then? If so, what would you recommend, Best Buy/6th ave/private shop or a Honda dealership?

Thanks for the input!

I saw the F900BT deal too, sounds really good considering that its retail price is over $1000. However I can't really imagine watching a DVD in my car, maybe some videos off my ipod or a SD card. The F700BT has identical navigation and audio functions, which are important for me.

Now, does anyone know if there is a DIY tutorial for installing the F700/900 system? I assume their wirings are the same. 07Ex, can you confirm whether the SWI-PS cable will enable the normal steering wheel control?

soldering isnt required, yo++-u can use butt connectors or wire caps. not quite as good as solder, but theyre still good connections if crimped firmly

if this is your first install ever, you may want to go to a shop, unless youre sure you can do it. it isnt hard, but the first few times can be kind of intimidating.

ipod cord. look at the DIY install. there is a little panel that comes out so you can access 2 r 3 screws to loosen the headunit in front of the shifter. it looks pretty tight back there, but you should be able to run the cord down through that, into the center console pocket in front of the shifter. the rear of the center console would be more difficult, you would have to run it behind the radio, down under the center console, then drill a hole in the compartment to get the wire in. it would take some determination, and probably a wire snake to do it without removing the center console completely, although the only tough part is getting it into the storagecompartment. as far as using the cord vs ipod corld, im not sure.
