Hi all! I’m new here to the community. Sucks that this has to be my first post but here it goes

So this past week on Wednesday I was having a bit of fun in 3rd with my Si on the commute to work. I was watching the tach go all the way to 8250-8300 (like I always do when I’m wringing the engine out) and I aimed the shifter for fourth gear, or so I thought. I should have known better and I typically use the proper technique for shifting into fourth (gripping the shifter with my fingers and with my hand upside down) but instead like a moron this one time I pulled back (like I was going from first to second.) It went into second and the revs skyrocketed for barely half a second up to what looked like 9500-10,000 rpm and as soon as I heard them going up and felt the tires start to chirp I slammed the clutch in and the revs dropped. I tried to stop myself from having an anxiety attack while rolling down the road when I noticed that my engine wasn’t making any strange noises, hadn’t managed to destroy itself and that the idle was sitting at 750 like nothing happened. I shifted into 5th and rev matched and was met with a quick and smooth response, and gave a bit of gas to find that the engine pulled smoothly. I got to work with no weird issues and the engine idled as smooth as it ever had when I parked my car. No odd noises or anything. Like nothing even happened

Later that day I ran it through the rpm range while clenching every muscle in my body and it responded normally. VTEC cracked nice and hard and the engine roared at me like always. These past few days I’ve been driving the car and nothing seems to be amiss. No misfires, weird noises, CELs, power loss, knocking or anything. I got an oil change yesterday (Saturday) and found no metal shavings. I even managed to crack 100k miles yesterday while pulling up to a stop sign (added about 200 miles since the over rev) I’ve owned the car for almost a year, (bought it with 86k on it) always keep my oil topped off and whatnot and the level was the same that day

My question is, with all of the experience on here and whatnot, does anyone think I may have any sort of damage even though my car shows absolutely no signs, is performing and sounding as though absolutely nothing happened??? Or am I just stuck in a state of paranoia because of a trauma inducing over rev?

you got a second chance by God go church and say thanks lol ... pretty much you could have bend a rod, shot a piston out. This is the 2nd story I hear when a person money shifts on a honda. The other guy did it on his acura integra base model .. he said the rpm hit 10k and he did the same mistake as you did. For him the car was fine after but his clutch master cylinder was dry empty right as he pull over.

Lol believe me, I’ve praying and thanking god ever since the incident. This car is my baby lol. I’m honestly really surprised I didn’t seize a bearing, bend a rod or a valve or my engine didn’t just sling itself apart. I couldn’t believe it just pulled and idled smoothly after everything. This just further convinces me these motors are tanks and that god is real.

Just goes to show you hondas can take a beating. I very rarely go into vtec but when I do I pay attention to how I shift and if I hear the rpms start going up I hurry and press the clutch in faster than you can blink lol. However some people aren't that lucky and blow the motor up and then there's the people that get lucky like yourself lol.

Lol no kidding…I might be one of the luckiest out of the bunch…all I know is I wasn’t too far away from 10k and my valves having a little makeout session with my pistons

That sound when it hits 10,000. I did it at the end of the 1/4 mile. I had just done an tranny oil change to Amsoil, and tapped it out of 4th gear and it landed in 3rd. My car is near 200,000 miles and I hit redline almost everytime I drive it, it can take it. If you throw a Hondata tuner on it, you can run to 8600 rpms, after that you would need to upgrade your oil pump to go higher.
