Hi all! I’m new here to the community. Sucks that this has to be my first post but here it goes
So this past week on Wednesday I was having a bit of fun in 3rd with my Si on the commute to work. I was watching the tach go all the way to 8250-8300 (like I always do when I’m wringing the engine out) and I aimed the shifter for fourth gear, or so I thought. I should have known better and I typically use the proper technique for shifting into fourth (gripping the shifter with my fingers and with my hand upside down) but instead like a moron this one time I pulled back (like I was going from first to second.) It went into second and the revs skyrocketed for barely half a second up to what looked like 9500-10,000 rpm and as soon as I heard them going up and felt the tires start to chirp I slammed the clutch in and the revs dropped. I tried to stop myself from having an anxiety attack while rolling down the road when I noticed that my engine wasn’t making any strange noises, hadn’t managed to destroy itself and that the idle was sitting at 750 like nothing happened. I shifted into 5th and rev matched and was met with a quick and smooth response, and gave a bit of gas to find that the engine pulled smoothly. I got to work with no weird issues and the engine idled as smooth as it ever had when I parked my car. No odd noises or anything. Like nothing even happened
Later that day I ran it through the rpm range while clenching every muscle in my body and it responded normally. VTEC cracked nice and hard and the engine roared at me like always. These past few days I’ve been driving the car and nothing seems to be amiss. No misfires, weird noises, CELs, power loss, knocking or anything. I got an oil change yesterday (Saturday) and found no metal shavings. I even managed to crack 100k miles yesterday while pulling up to a stop sign (added about 200 miles since the over rev) I’ve owned the car for almost a year, (bought it with 86k on it) always keep my oil topped off and whatnot and the level was the same that day
My question is, with all of the experience on here and whatnot, does anyone think I may have any sort of damage even though my car shows absolutely no signs, is performing and sounding as though absolutely nothing happened??? Or am I just stuck in a state of paranoia because of a trauma inducing over rev?
