Wow... that's pretty interesting stuff. I'm really surprised the 4-stroke has lasted as long as it has considering its efficiency.
2 strokes generally have pretty atrocious low-midrange power, though they are extremely powerful for their displacement at the top end. Other than emissions, this is why they are/were popular for dirtbikes, snowmobiles, chainsaws, locomotives, etc. Something like the video displayed could well be outstanding for an application where the engines will be running at one or two RPM/power levels, but not a whole lot in between.

That said, in the comments section, someone noted that this kind of engine was used back in the 50/60's as truck engines, which makes sense, though I know nothing at all about them in that respect.
