If you don't have the money to replace a blown engine then definitely don't turbo. Any reliable kit will cost around $4k, and if you are looking to put down 350-500 horsepower you are looking at extensively more money into it. Enjoy the car for what it is until you can afford to make it into what you want it to be, I am in a very similar situation except I am a broke college student and want more out of it, but forced induction is a give and take situation. Lets just say this, you have 3 options and you can only choose 2 of them at a time, affordable, reliable, powerful. Throw luck in there and you could have all 3, but I never bet on luck.
