Alright guys, I have skunk2 stage2 cams, hybrid TCT. ect. When my car sits overnight lets say and in the morning i start it, Right when it fires and turns over there's a chattering noise ? Well i just took off my valve cover to change my header ( to make it easier to get to the bolts ) and im looking and i see the timing chain is lose ? Its not loose around the gears but at the top there slack in the chain.

Could this be where the noise is coming from ?

Should the chain have slack in it ?

and if not could the TCT be bad ?

I Hope someone can help me with this. !!

just wanted to let people know. I was at work . I hide my car on a lift on sundays we are not supposed to park on the lot ,I had been noticing soot around my header at the head but had not got around to tightening the bolts. 2 weeks ago I did and they were loose . cold start up slap noise is and has stayed gone. runs quieter of course .daughter even commented the car was smoother. the slap was actually the end stud had loosened in the head luckily not damaging the threads. this noise had started when cams installed more engine vibration made the loose header make noise
could it just be clutch chatter? does it jsut happen sometimes or is the noise a constant clack clack clack
from your description it sounds like you are getting chain slap (timing chain slaping the valve cover) because of a lack of oil pressure
two questions
Do you have enough oil in the car?
Did you do a oil pump mod that you didn't mention?

Really..............Really?..............Really?:screwy:Where did you happen to acquire this information my friend?
Old thread but if it's the same problem as me it's a simple solution.

I had chattering on startup on and off just for a few seconds.

I brought my car in to my dealer for an oil change (make sure you have OEM oil filter too)
When he had her up on the hoist he tore off my catalytic converter head shield. They were absolutely rotten and just hanging on barely.

Drove it home and a week after, NO chattering on startup or anything.

May work for some, may not. Worth a try tho next time it's on the hoist!
Since I installed Drag Cartel 2.2's I've gone through 3 VTC actuators. Put a new one in and it runs A++ for 2-3 months. Then repeat. Also can hear excessive valvetrain noise right around 4000rpm, linked to the actuator because it also goes away after a new VTC is put in.

Before I got cams there was no problem.
I have the same problem with DC2.2 , but it can be partially solved tuning the VTC tables to minimize the problem at partial throttle
Guys, my problem still there... i'm very afraid about this... i've got exactly the same problem you shebo1988 ...
