Alright guys, I have skunk2 stage2 cams, hybrid TCT. ect. When my car sits overnight lets say and in the morning i start it, Right when it fires and turns over there's a chattering noise ? Well i just took off my valve cover to change my header ( to make it easier to get to the bolts ) and im looking and i see the timing chain is lose ? Its not loose around the gears but at the top there slack in the chain.

Could this be where the noise is coming from ?

Should the chain have slack in it ?

and if not could the TCT be bad ?

I Hope someone can help me with this. !!

Ive been having this same issue when the car sits for over 5 or 6 hours and its below 45-50 degrees. im boosted but stock cams and motor. did it before my mods too. could it be the fact that are motor is high compression and the oil is too thick when cold so the starter is over strained?
you put to much oil in it. Also not all of the oil drains out when u change the oil.
It's got to be the tensioner guys, my car sat for 2 nights and temp was around 28 degrees, I start my fa5 and heard the grinding noise for 2 sec and stopped. Totally normol for chain engines.
Guys we have the same issue with 2 engines and is the intake cam gear try that I'm pretty sure they gone resolve the issue I have a caro in the shop for 2 months and we change all chain, guides, tensioner etc

Good luck make sure take one for a civic si or rsx
I've got the same issue, especially when it's cold in the mornings and when I go home from work. I've been told this is completely normal. Brand new Toda TCT and Toda A3 camshafts.
having the same issue now that i changd my cams, changed tct and it still doing it, comes and goes

Did anyone found the solution?
cam gear, pressure plate, reinstall the tct anything else?

here are some videos

Guys, this noise is normal. People have had it for years without issues.
Yes. Agreed. Tensioner. Also don't forget all these moving parts need to be installed correctly.
Take it to a shop.
Guys, what kind of noise are You refering?
I my case it hapends in The morning cold start, a couple of seconds or less aftershave i start the car i have a sound like if it "scratchs" (done know how to explain it), just a second and then no moré sound. Its a sound similar as in when the starter (older cars) sticks.

Is this The sound youre refering?
If so, finally whats The solution? Or it is normal?
I changed cams (IPS k2-11), timing chain, OEM TCT, oil pump (a2), oil pump chain, etc. This was about 3000 miles ago. I dont remember i had this sound before the build.

Is it the intake cam gear as JoTech stated? Any one else tried That?
It is the tct I just installed the new hybrid tct which does not need preloading as older ones did . When I installed my cams I replaced chain and tct with factory ,slap started right away , worse on some mornings then others . You must get a tune to get the low cam correct or it will destroy your tensioner . That is what i read somewhere . I just put it in today so i will let you know. Vit is tuning my car right now and is working on the cams and it is running very well but that noise was bugging me so i did the switch to hybrid. Pulled the inspection cover plate yanked the new factory installed the Hybrid tct readjusted the valves while there. Started and no noise . we will see in the a.m. and I will let you know. toda has stiffer spring but i read where they use stock housings . Hybrid has double teeth on the shaft and bigger housing and stiffer spring plus difference in oiling . when you turn out the thumb screw it pops out with good force compared to stock.

Your problem was thinking a factory tensioner was a good idea. Its not thats why you had problems.

K20z3allmotor told me this noise is normal and he has it and so did Bboyburst. I have had it for 15k miles without a problem.
Had mine make this noise for 15k+ as well. I don't even notice it anymore.
I vote VTC actuator (Cam Gear). Im dealing with that now, ran oil pressure to low.
after hybrid installed noise still there . bought vtc actuator but returned it . it is not that . I don't think I,m gonna worry about it , start it let it idle a bit go give it hell.
It's either the VTC spool valve or the actual intake cam gear itself.
