There is an incredible amount of interest out there to decrease or reduce the sound levels of their exhaust systems. Some systems are just inherently loud like Skunk2 70mm. Others become loud when coupled with a race header. Virtually any exhaust that is 2.5" or larger, when used in conjunction with a race header, will be major league loud.

When I originally went to buy my race header, there was a video by SCTuned, a former vendor with both a Vibrant rh w/hfc and Vibrant cat-back. Man, was it ever loud. Ridiculous loud IMO. So, I searched the Vibrant catalog and found an 18" bottle type resonator. It worked pretty well at reducing the sound at idle, when driving sedately and it also eliminated most drone on the freeway.

We don't have a lot of options, but here they are:

1. Bottle type resonator:

A. Vibrant 12" and 18"-Vibrant Performance ::.

The Vibrant comes in sizes from 2.25" to 3.0"

2. Vibrant Ultra-quiet axle type resonator:-http://vibrantperformance.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=1021_1033_1055

3. Chambered muffler. This kind is not a straight through design, which most companies use. Instead. the exhaust gas goes through a chambered, perforated section or sections to reduce sound.

A. Magnaflow-http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/universalsatinxl.asp

4. Long chambered round type mufflers that would be used in place of a midpipe-http://www.stainlessworks.net/cart/index.php?cPath=24_78

5. Varaflow muffler with butterfly valve to control sound levels-http://www.pertronix.com/prod/ex/varaflow/default.aspx

* Only comes in 2.5" size

6. Twin Loop Muffler

A. Hytech-http://www.hytechexhaust.com/

* Only comes in 2.5" size

B. Mugen and "Mugen Style"-

* Mugen comes in 2.5" size

* Mugen Style comes in 2.5" and 3.0" OBX Muffler Twin Loop 2.5" Mugen Style Honda Acura:eBay Motors (item 180434025965 end time Dec-26-09 14:16:38 PST)

So, based on these options, when used alone, or in combination with each other, sound levels could be dramatically reduced. I could see that 30" chambered muffler that is quite slim, along with a Hytech twin loop muffler to give an exhaust note equal to or better than stock. Or, rather than use a straight through muffler, a chambered muffler and a bottle type resonator could again dramatically reduce sound levels. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I was starting to get really annoyed with my Tsudo exhaust that I went to the catback page to look for a replacement exhaust. I saw this thread and decided to get the OBX twin loop muffler instead. Thanks again!

I just installed the OBX twin loop. The sound level decreased dramatically over the N1 muffler (Tsudo exhaust). I know it isn't broken in yet but it's even quieter than when the silencer was on the N1 at low-mid RPM's. The drone is surprisingly better even compared to the silenced N1. High RPM's sound so much better also.

Thanks again Bill for posting up all this information.

Ive been thinking of changing out my muffler as well. I have a Virbant RC w/HFC 2.5" piping and stock Si exhaust. I used to have a Tsudo muffler that was too loud. I bought a twin loop muffler, not OBX. Alot of the sound clips that i heard sounded like rice with the OBX. Hopefully when my Mugen knock-off twin loop comes in I'll have some results for ya'll

I'll definetly post pics tommorow. Sorry for the delay, busy with school. Here's the link to the site i bought mine from. My set up with th twin loop muffler, Vibrant RC w/HFC, 2.5" piping with 15" resonator sounds amazing really deep not too loud. About 2.5 out of 10 in noise. When Vtec engages, All I really hear is my Inen SRI and motor. This is definetly my favorite set up thus far.

The sound is deep and awesome. There was not really any fitment issue, the muffler shop attached the hangers from right above the outlet. I was surprised when I opened the box and had seen this thing for the first time in person (it was a thing of beauty). Great quality, no dents or dings. I plan on adding a Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator in place of the 15" bottle resonator that I currently have. I give the noise level as of right now a 2.5 out of 10. Hopefully with the addition of the Ultra Quiet resonator it will be more like a 1.5 out of 10. 1 would be stock 10 would be something like SK2 70mm catback (i use to own this as well).
