Metal Plate LSD


Description: Also known as a "Clutch Type" or "Salisbury Type" differential, the MFactory Metal Plate LSD puts the power-to-the-ground and maximises your vehicle's traction where conventional Torsen LSD's fail. Unlike a Torsen style LSD, when one wheel loses traction completely (e.g wheel lifts off the ground or axle failure), the 2nd wheel will still have drive and you will not be stranded in the heat of the moment. This may be a 'noob question, but why is a helical LSD that's rated for "1000whp+" cheaper than a metal plate LSD rated for "~500whp"? And, then, which would be best for my soon-to-be built and boosted R18? Thanks!

The Helical LSD is a "gear type" LSD that is a far simpler design and with no wear components.

The Metal Plate LSD is a "clutch type" LSD that has a far more complex design with wear components (discs and springs).

If your car is mainly use on the street or drag, we would recommend the Helical LSD.

I wanna get a clutch type LSD. Can you explain a little bit the difference among the WAYs?
Which way should I get? I race at Thunderhill Race Way. It's a hi speed road course. My car is rotrex-supercharged. 375whp. stock tranny, stock clutch.

a 1 way only works on acceleration (i.e only locks when you have your foot on the gas)

a 1.5 way works on acceleration, and 50% as much on deceleration

a 2.0 way works fully on both acceleration and deceleration

most experienced road/race drivers choose the 1 way, as it allows them to lose the rear slightly during a corner so they can "point" the car in the direction they want to go.

a 1.5 way is more suitable for the less experienced driver, and a 2.0way is really only suitable for a rally car (based on a FWD car)
