It's stupid. A noise ordinance already exists in MA. So what's wrong is that the law enforcement is simply failing to enforce a law that already exists.

It's called being lazy. It's the same in NH, no exhaust, no suspension(unless it's a dealer option). But I've never gotten hasseled. They had a witch hunt about 6-7 years ago, but since then have chilled out. If your not out on the roads acting like an idiot, you'll be fine. I tend to find an exhaust that is low profile(comptech), no fart cans/N1 style. and have always donated $ to local and state police forces. My EK is slammed and I replaced the cat and the catback, and have never had an issue.

What do you expect from the state that gave us John Kerry? I wonder what SEMA is doing to combat this? Hope this legislation can be stopped.

Massachusetts Bill to Ban the Sale/Installation of Aftermarket Exhaust Systems Is Back . . . Again
After being stalled for the last several years, a bill (H.B. 3574) to ban the sale or installation of “an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust” has been reintroduced by Rep. Liz Malia ([email protected]). The bill excludes limited-use “antique motor cars” from its scope - a clear attempt by the bill’s sponsor to divide the automobile hobby in an effort to gain clearer sailing for this restrictive and damaging piece of legislation. H.B. 3574 has been referred to the Joint Transportation Committee.

We Urge You to Contact the Members of the Joint Transportation Committee (List Below) Immediately to Request Their Opposition to H.B. 3574

H.B. 3574 ignores the fact that aftermarket exhaust systems are designed to make vehicles run more efficiently without increasing emissions.

H.B. 3574 does not supply law enforcement with a clear standard to enforce, allowing them to make subjective judgments on whether or not a modified exhaust system is in violation.

H.B. 3574 fails to recognize that aftermarket exhaust systems offer increased performance, which can make a vehicle safer by improving its ability to merge, pass, travel uphill, etc.

H.B. 3574 would make it difficult for hobbyists to replace factory exhaust systems with more durable, better performing options.

H.B. 3574 would only exclude “antique motor cars” defined as those vehicles over 25-years old which are used exclusively for exhibitions, club activities, parades, etc.

DON’T DELAY! Please contact members of the Massachusetts Joint Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their opposition to H.B. 3574.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at [email protected]. Thank you for your assistance.

The funniest part is reading all the posted comments at the bottom of the article. It goes from some guy complaining about country boys with straight pipes on their trucks to talking about terrorist attacks like 9/11 lol.

It's not just liberal states that do that. NH is mostly a republican state and that law has been in affect for years. I do hate how it's overlooked on bikes and also trucks. It's actually legal to modify your exhaust on your truck, if it's needed to preform a work function(i.e. towing/plowing). And I've never seen a large truck get ticketed for raising the suspension. There are lots of loopholes to get around tickets, but that's our state, not yours.

Like I said before, I've never gotten hassled for my mods. I've been pulled over numerous times, and the worst I got was the cop mentioning that it's illegal.
